The Library Is Open (11/4/05)

Janet opened up the library early on Friday so she could get out in time to get lunch in town with Sam, and then go check out McKay and Jonas' new repair shop.

"Janet, tell me why oh why I'm in the library working on this frakkin' essay when the day is just so beautiful outside?" Lee says with a dramatic sigh as he enters the library.

After the run, Cameron bounces into the library. "You know? It's hard to drag you out of bed if you're already gone."

"I don't know," said Janet, glancing out the window. It really was a gorgeous day out. "When's it due?"

"Sorry," said Janet sheepishly. "I've been insanely busy lately. Tomorrow, okay?"

The baby? March. "The full application is due in about a month."

"So how's it going here in the library, haven't been in here in a few days..."

"Sure, no worries. Liz and Anders went with me." He said as he leaned his elbows on the counter.

I had no idea you were pregnant. You don't show at all. "What are you applying for?" asked Janet as she didn't remember hearing anything IC.

"Much better. The librarian's back from his business trip, everything's cleaned up, and Zero and Parker are back. All is right with the world." Janet smiled.

"But I think the Library's a coffee addict."

"Good. How's it going?" Janet abandoned the concept of checking the overdue book list in favor of socialization. "Anything interesting going on?"

"I took Vala on a treasure hunt last night," Cameron said with a goofy grin, deciding to concentrate on the non emo things, even if he was burning to ask her about something else.

Ugh. Mpreg. End the rumor here. "War College at Caprica," Lee says with a stiff pride. "I could just apply to the Academy to be a viper pilot but War College gets me an edge on becoming a top ranked officer."

"The Library itself is a coffee addict?" Lee asks confused.

Janet laughed. "Oh, God," she said. "How perfect an idea is that for her?" Janet would let him know when she had an answer herself. These sorts of things took time.

"Isn't it just? I wish I could take credit, but Kawalsky actually came up with it." Cameron grins. "You should have seen her face. You could totally do this with Daniel. Bury some stone at the beach and get him to dig them out.

And yet Parker is having a squid baby. Which is weirder? "Sounds thrilling," said Janet. "Good luck. So what do you need to do to apply? Do you need recommendations from teachers?"

"I'm not sure," said Janet. "Zero thinks it runs more on the sprit of caffeine, which makes an odd sort of sense. The Library is a far stranger place than we thought it was."

...ew! "Just a long application and a 25 page essay," he says groaning, "and five letters of reference, yeah."

Lee looks a bit creeped out at the way Janet's talking about the Library as a sentient being. His toaster back in his room would roll his eyes if it had eyeballs.

"Charlie's a pretty smart guy," says Janet. "Did you get pictures? I think the poor guy's missing an actual archaeological dig. What kind of treasure did you have for her?"

I didn't start it! Blame Jack. "A twenty-five page essay?" asked Janet. "How far have you gotten? And have you gotten all your reference letters yet?"

Janet shrugs helplessly. "I don't think anyone realized." Janet wonders if Lee's toaster and the Library would get along.

"Damn, no. I should have, I think it's etched in my mind for the rest of my life, though." Cameron chuckles. "I bought some minerals and crystals for her to find along the way and the treasure was a silver necklace, one of those celtic knots. Give him a shover, a sandbox and put some rocks in it. He'll have fun for a week."

"As long as you remember it, that's the important thing." Janet grins. He's so gone. "So, the combination of Vala plus sparkly things was a hit? She's a magpie. He does love his rocks. Now if only he could find time to catalog them all."

"She is," Cameron laughs, his broad grin and eyes definitely comfirming that he's very much gone and enjoying every second of it. "Hey, do you know if there's something going on this afternoon or evening? I know some people are tense what with happened and I think I might have an idea to keep spirits up."

Parker's tired when she gets in, but it's not as bad as it was the last few days. And she did not dream of Cleveland, that would be too weird.
