Shop Class #6
Apparently one of the emitters is the problem as he has it disassembled and the parts are scattered across the desk.
Mac looks up from his work with a sad look on his face.
"I know all of you have probably heard about Kitty Pryde. I don't know how well you all knew her or not, but Dean Bristow has asked all the faculty members to devote some class time to talk about her death with everyone in an open format. I'll leave that up to you on how much you want to participate."
"First let me tell you all how much I enjoyed your essays on duct tape. I like them so much I'm assigning another essay while I fix this emitter. The topic today is Swiss Army Knives, and their wonder ability to do almost anything. That will be a in-class 100 word essay due before the end of the period."
((OOC: I will be AFK until late tonight. Please don't blow anything up while I'm gone. Otherwise detention will be involved. Or worse.))

Class Assignment
Re: Class Assignment
Re: Class Assignment
Swiss Army knives are good.
Firstly, because they are Swiss, which I have no historical background knowledge about, but they apparently also make cheese and chocolate, and anyplace that is famous for chocolate can’t possibly be bad.
Secondly, because they have different little bits to use, for whatever you need at the time. Need a knife? It is a knife! Etcetera, etcetera.
Thirdly, because if they weren’t so awesome, we wouldn’t be writing about them. We were assigned to write about Swiss Army knives because they are awesomer than the other things we could have been told to write about.

Re: Class Assignment
The big blade is the most commonly used, followed by the bottle-opener/can-opener. Then the scissors. I like the screwdriver and wire-stripper too, and the little light is nice. Not sure about the toothpick.
The class will undoubtedly be using both the saw blade and the other screwdriver blades as the year progresses. It’s a handy little gadget and I’m looking into one of my own for real use.
Re: Class Assignment
Swiss army knives provide proof that human beings are capable of advanced levels of abstract and pragmatic thought. Having one in your pocket
or other hidden placesmeans that you are never without resources, even if you happen to be locked in a cellor trapped on an alien spaceship.I have used them to get myself out of many situations I would have preferred not to have been inand that I usually got into because Jack or Daniel said or did something stupid. Their usefulness is limited only by human creativity. The new ones can help you hack into computers. Not that I would.Re: Class Assignment
I have no idea why it's important that they're "Swiss" Army Knives, but it's kind of hard to go wrong with something that's shiny and red and can have so many different combinations of cool gadgets. It's hours of entertainment really. If you're bored, you can always play with the pieces and go, "Hey, I wonder if I'm ever going to be able to use that? And when?" Or you can find things to do with them.
Really, what it all comes down to is that they're red and shiny and that's just cool.

Re: Class Assignment
Swiss Army Knives are pretty cool. Even if the name is somewhat misleading. Is it a "Swiss army" knife, or a "Swiss" army knife? I'm not sure. For that matter, do the Swiss even have an army? Anyway, you can use them for all sorts of things, like opening bottles or magnifying things or cutting things. Sometimes there's even a nail file, which is handy for those times when you're hard at work and you break a nail, I guess. It's small and can be put in a pocket, which means it's always there when you need it. Like a good friend. A good, shiny, pocket-sized red friend with many different sharp implements.
Let's talk about Kitty Pryde...

Re: Office Hours/Open Shop
It was a really long list.

Singing Cupcake-gram
Kiki sets down a large white cardstock box and pulls off the top, revealing several cupcakes (http://boogaloo.ca/Photostack/Rebel/cupcakes.jpg), and without further ado launches into "Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday, dear Alllllleeeeeeex, Happy birthday to you!"
Re: Singing Cupcake-gram
Nevertheless, everyone's welcome to a cupcake. Krycek takes one, figuring it was almost as good as a real breakfast...
Stands up and shouts to the class...
Okay, guys, we need to blow off these essays... seriously... if we're going to get punished with more of them for doing well, then if we blow them off he should stop assigning them.
...right?
*realizes that Professor Mac probably heard that, he sits down sheepishly.*
Re: Stands up and shouts to the class...
Mac then gives Shep a disappointed look. "Keep in mind that this is my classroom. If you have a problem with an assignment, you can talk to me or Sam about it and we can work something out. However another outburst like that and you'll be facing detention. Understand?"
Re: Stands up and shouts to the class...
*realizes he's probably making things worse by trying to explain, Shep pulls out paper*
"Swiss Army Knives are very handy because..."
