Math Class for Wednesday, November 2 16:00-18:00

Since Mr. Eppes is out sick today, he has asked me to take over class.

So...announcements for today:
* Murphy MacManus, please talk to me about getting the notes for previous classes.
* Lily, Alanna, Jack or Han if you could be kind enough to give him those notes, that'd be great.
* If Kitty Pryde misses this class, she has detention. Um, er. Yeah.
* If Archie Kennedy misses this class, and does not give a valid excuse by Sunday, he's kicked out of class.

I'll get the classes started with the assignments for the day.

Maia glances over the numeral systems and decides to go with Hebrew, Diana was jewish afterall it worked for her. *smirks*

Barbossa looked with some dismay at the information in front of him. "These be numbers?" he muttered.

He decided the Babylonian ones would look really neat as tattoos.

"Hey Broots, what's up?"Lisa says, looking over his shoulder to see what he is up to.

"Sweet. Can you actually help me with the assignment? I know how to run a computer, but anything beyond the basics is a little bit beyond my reach. The topic I can understand, but how do you use it in computers? Modeling software?"

Lisa nods, nods, give him a curious look, and then finally starts to blank out.

"Thanks, Broots. I think I understood about 1/8th of that, but what I did catch was actually really helpful." She gives him an amused but grateful smile. "Where did you learn all this stuff?"

Lisa submits an essay on how mathematical modelling is currently being used to improve cancer therapy.

...The aim of the network is to develop the whole modelling process from phenomenological observation to simulation and validation, through the development of mathematical models and their qualitative and quantitative study, in order to simulate the different aspects of tumor dynamics within the full range of scales: sub-cellular, cellular and macroscopic. Developing mathematical models at all the scales mentioned requires making use of a wide variety of theoretical tools from a range of disciplines (e.g., continuum mechanics, kinetic theory, stochastic processes, system theory, compartmental models, multiphase systems) and developing different mathematical tools to obtain both qualitative and quantitative results....

"Damn, not bad. So, is Eppes really sick, or was he like, eaten by Locker 327 or that Crazy Squid Lady?"

It seems like a science to me, but then again I'm not really too good at scientific stuff. Math's got all the rules and everything . . . but I guess it kind of has more rules than science does, doesn't it? With math you have to work within the rules to figure out whatever problems you're trying to solve by numbers, but with science you have to figure out the problems in order to make the rules.

So in a way, I guess they're the same, but in other ways they're total opposites.

Just... had a bit of a... weird Quantum Physics class, that's all. I'm... I... I don't really want to talk about it. *bites clean through her eraser*

Sorry.
