Study Hall -- Wednesday, November 2nd

Sarah's at the front desk, staring blankly as she leans over a notebook and clutches her head. Her mind seems to be elsewhere, and it's probably a bad idea to talk to her.

The puppies are back, sleeping in the basket in front of the desk and available for people to cuddle for comfort.

Rory shakes her head. "It's horrible," she says in the same bewildered tone she'd been using since she found out. "I still can't believe it. I mean, obviously I believe it, but...Parker, I was right there. I talked to her right before it happened. I should've known better."

Spitfire? I'm a spitfire now? *scratches forehead* Not much, really. Spent time with Anders last night, surprise, and then ABC/DC is supposed to be fixing up that ship in the backyard over at where Jayne used to live, sometime. Other than that... erm, hunger and poor-ness. That's all. *big smile*

Everyone's sorrow and tension getting to her, Beka paused outside Study Hall to lean against the wall, take a few deep breaths and steady out. When she entered the classroom, she wore a genuine, if wistful smile, and her eyes weren't quite as hard as usual. She quickly found her friends, but made sure they didn't close themselves off to newcomers.

"Gentlemanly? Ha! Yes, that vould explain why we can't have a single conversation vithout him taking offense and the slightest thing I say, and vhy he seems to take such pleasure in irritating me at every opportu-"

She pauses, then puts her face in her hands and groans. "pestele tale...you're right."

Parker's face takes on a little more animation. "Should've known better about.. what? All Alanna told me was that they were certain Kitty died. No one's told me anything about how." She hands Rory the puppy. "Here cuddle her, since Vladdie isn't here."

"Okay, I think," Piper said somewhat somberly. "Got a lot on my mind. You?"

Do we have much of a choice today? We're probably gonna have to risk it. And I was thinking of playing lightball with Bridge for training tonight, so I'll talk to him then.

*frowns* I've still gotta get RIC back to him, too.

She bites her lip and looks at her absently mindly stroking the puppy

"but this is good right? I mean confusing and stuff, which believe me I totally get, but good yeah?"

"About the same. But I'm OK with most of it." Beka shuffled the papers on her desk. "Anything on your mind that's going to trigger power-blasts?" she finally offered with a game, but not unsympathetic, smile.

"That's funny, coming from you, because you enslaving that poor puppy distracts me from doing my homework. Really Malfoy, i thought you'd try to corrupt some human beings but i guess you gotta start with small things, right?" Harry smirks. and you leave my mother out of this

Rory takes the puppy and snuggles her close.

"When Lockheed showed up - that's why Angela and I didn't go to the party Sunday night, by the way - he told Professor Dream that there was a 'killer' in the alley with them. That's the exact wording."

Han drops a comforting pat on her shoulder as he walks by. He doesn't know what's wrong, but he knows one of his favorite people has looked loike she's ready to cry all day.

"So you think... what? You should've been there to? Or that you should've known that Kitty would meet someone who'd kill her in an alley?" Parker shakes her head. "Gilmore, stop it. You're just..." She stops talking, her face falling.

"Possibly," Piper said, her voice steady. "Wish I knew who to direct it at, though."

"I shouldn't have let her go off by herself. I don't think I could've defended her against whoever got her, but...I had Vladdie and Logan with me. I mean, while Vladdie's not much of a threat, he does have a nasty bite, I'd think, and...well, I just think that if she'd stayed with us she would've been safe." Rory bites her lip and looks like she wants to cry...but is too tired.

Yeah, his robot dog? It's been in my closet since Parents' Weekend. Deactivated. I hope. Well, nothing's gotten chewed up or melted in there anyway. He kind of stole it from his old school.

"Maybe. And maybe you'd be dead too. Blank says he was gassed, that could've been you. I think he's lucky he's not dead as well." Parker sighs, and takes Rory's hand, and gives it a squeeze. "I know it's easier to blame yourself than to think about how scary this is, about what we don't know. But try, okay? It isn't down to you, I swear."

Sonia sighs and rubs a hand over her temple. "I don't know...I mean, aside from the ball, he's really given no indication as to...vell, anything."

She buries her face in the puppy's fur, her voice muffled. "Four-hundred years, and it's not gotten any easier."

Sauntering into Study Hall, Duce was arrested by the sight of a kid covered in... glitter? and.. plastic bits? Her lips twitched as she tried to control a laugh. The kid's expression told her he, at least, didn't find the situation amusing.

"What the hell happened to you?" She managed to ask it without bursting into laughter. Some days, it's all about the small accomplishments.

"Four hundred year? wow that's actually kinda worrying from my point of year I mean I was hoping to have worked out who I wanted to be with by like next week really!" she laughs, "only well I guess I don't actually have to. I shouldn't have said anything should I?" she asks
