Leadership, Friday, 3rd Period

Scott was going to host class in the Danger Shop today, but upon hearing exactly what that was, he couldn't quite bring himself to do it. It had taken enough energy to shave and wear a recently washed shirt. He couldn't also face such a reminder of his time with the X-Men. With... her. So when the class showed up to the normal classroom Scott had picked instead, they would see a tall guy standing in front of his desk who looked and smelled much cleaner than he had a week ago. But despite his cleanliness, Scott was wearing red tinted sunglasses despite being indoors, so there still had to be SOMETHING weird about him.

Or maybe you just knew him already, killing all of the suspense. Sigh. AUs.

"Good afternoon, everyone," Scott said, taking a step back to lean on his desk all casual-like. Start it nice and simple. Just like he used to at the Xavier Institute. A loooong time ago. Actually, not even that long, but it felt that way. "My name's Scott Summers. You can call me either Mr Summers or Professor Summers. I'll answer to either." Yep, despite the forced casualness he was showing, he still liked protocol. Sue him. "I'm not going to get into my qualifications for this class just yet, so you'll have to trust me when I say I have experience with the subject." It had less to do with creating an air of mystery and more with trying not to get too mopey on the first day.

"Leadership sounds like a simple concept at the beginning. All you have to do is convince people that it's worthwhile to do what you say, right?" Scott asked. Don't answer! It was rhetorical! "A lot of people will even give you a shot to show what you can do if it's not inconvenient for them. But then you get to the tough part. You have to keep them listening. Every decision you make and everything you ask your team to do is a referendum on your abilities. I'd love to tell you that it's easy and you get used to it. But honestly, it's something I've had trouble with myself at times." Damn you, Wolverine. Damn you.

"But that's something we'll get into more in future classes. For now, we're going to skip the class-wide introductions I understand you've been doing all week. Let's get straight to something more personal. I'm going to break you up into groups of three. Introduce yourselves if you need to. Get to know each other. Find out what kind of leadership qualities you think your group members might have. And then at the end of class, you're going to write down the name of whichever group member you think would make the better leader based solely on this initial contact and whatever criteria you have for the position right now. But no voting for yourself."

Before anyone could do a headcount and figure out that the math might not work, Scott added, "One last thing. Because we have 17 people signed up, two students will be free agents. Congratulations if you're here, Mr Drake and Miss Logan. You're my TAs. I want you to start out at the front of the class with me, then you can wander around and insert yourselves into any conversations you want."

Scott stepped forward from the desk and clapped his hands together. "Let's get started."

Cyclops seemed sad. Oh, wait, probably not supposed to call him that here. Mr. Summers seemed sad. Alex wondered if he'd finally left Emma Frost (although...wouldn't that be cause for rejoicing?). Or...wait, Jean Grey was still dead, wasn't she?

. . . yeah, the teacher definitely seemed sad about something. That was hard to miss.

Mostly, though, Anakin was wondering about his qualifications.

So in his haste to make sure he was signed up for something to justify his presence here for the semester, Bobby hadn't looked too closely at the class descriptions, and so had missed important details like who was teaching this particular class.

As soon as he saw Scott, though, he couldn't help the amused little smirk that sprung to his lips. There couldn't be too many Summerses out there- well, okay, too many Summerses who wore ruby quartz glasses. This was gonna be... interesting.

Squall narrowed his eyes. The last Scott Summers he'd met had explicitly forbidden him and his friends from helping Jono's X-Men fight. Hopefully, this one would be more reasonable.

Karla exchanged a look with Squall. X-men didn't seem to like her.

...For some weird reason.

Yeah, buddy, the sunglasses wasn't convincing Britta Perry that you were cool, so keep trying. This class was definitely going to the top of her To-Skip list, because she was pretty sure her enrollment in it was her probate officer's bad idea of a joke.

Well, if anyone was suspicious about Rebecca's last name, it was clearly because her dad was a senator and she was therefore awesome. Duh. She didn't know how exactly she'd managed to score a TA position on her first day of classes, but she was just going to roll with it. See? Awesome.

"Hello," she chirped. "Rebecca Logan. Nice to meet you, Mr. Summers."

So, sure there were some subtle differences between this Scott and the one who'd recently been dealing with an explosive device lodged in his chest, but he still looked pretty... Scott-like, as far as Bobby was concerned. Too bad the reverse wasn't true from Scott's perspective. Especially since Bobby couldn't quite make himself use "Mr" or "Professor" in relation to Scott just yet.

"Summers," he managed. "Bobby Drake, reporting for duty," he tossed off a mock-salute.

[ooc: starting a separate thread because i'm a REBEL. or maybe just because otherwise the conversation would flow weirdly.]

"Um, hi," Angelica said to the two boys she'd been paired with. She didn't know much about leadership yet, so she wasn't expecting to win this at all. Sell herself? Yeah, right.

"Uh, Hi," Jack said with a half wave. "I'm Jack. Annnnd-"

He paused trying to think of a way to sell himself as a leader.

"How's it going?"

Nice job, Jack.

"You wanted to see me?" Bobby asked. Yeah, there was no 'sir' being tacked on to the end there. What did you expect?

Well, okay; actually it was probably fairly likely that the Bobby from Scott's reality might've added that 'sir' on there. Too bad for Scott, this wasn't that Bobby.
