Philosophy 101- Week #1- Period 4

Any student who hadn't read the course description might have figured something out after the handwavy email telling them class met in the Danger Shop. And the fact that the Danger Shop looked a lot like the inside of a movie theater. There was an usher even giving out popcorn and sodas from a cart.

There probably was some kind of philosophy to this, if you looked hard enough, squinted, tilted your head and jumped up and down on one foot, but Jaye sure as hell wasn't trying that.

"I'm Jaye, this is Philosophy," she said. "Today we're going to be watching a movie called We Got In. Oh, and your TA for this class is going to be Lex. Oh, Lex, assuming you are here if you could hit play?"

Yep. That was totally it. She never would have taken this job if you'd told her she'd have to do actual work.

Well.

The academic part of Sam wondered if this was all this class was going to be. But, that part was promptly slayed by the slacker part of Sam who just enjoyed getting to sit back and watch a movie.

Jace didn't understand this movie at all. The main character was putting in more effort into creating a lie than he would have been actually going to college or getting a job. What an idiot.

Tara had kind of assumed the catalog description for this course was a joke, but hey. She could dig a good movie day.

She settled in to watch the film, occasionally doodling in her notebook.

Okay, so while Caroline could get behind easy movie days, she really wanted some clarification on how this was going to work, grade-wise.

And if there might be any sort of assessment related to the movies because she could totally pay attention if required.

Having spent last semester as Jamie's TA, Claudia rather felt she was ready for anything.

She was especially ready to spend a class watching movies. She settled back with her popcorn and wondered if there was some actual school out there that would let her earn her degree doing whatever the hell she wanted.

Nope. As it turned out, Bruce did not, in fact, appreciate the comedic talents of Justin Long and Jonah Hill today. That was officially confirmed.

Billy had assumed that the course description was a joke as well, or that, at least, they'd be watching philosophical movies. It wasn't that he minded watching movies, but he was worried about something so seemingly easy being difficult when they least expected it.

Well, this was easy. Jeremy grabbed some popcorn and relaxed like a pro.

He suspected he was going to like this class.

Class that required him to do nothing but eat popcorn and watch television. Yeah, Jake was so digging it... and the popcorn.

Best Monday classes ever.

Jake was enjoying himself far too much. Eventually Caroline ditched her seat and moved over by him so she could bother him with her whispered questions. "How are you enjoying this? First the movie sucks and second I don't understand what we should be learning from it!"

"That some movies are better than others, but popcorn makes it all better," he assured her, holding out his bowl to her.

Caroline rolled her eyes at him, huffing a bit as she settled lower in her theater seat, rejecting his popcorn because giving in seemed like...giving in. "You're way too happy about this Bad Teacher scenario."

"Maybe the philosophy is to get to manage to relax and sit back and enjoy something silly," he suggested. "That takes skill too."

Re: Watch the movie

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2012-01-02 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"What is there to enjoy about silly things?" Caroline asked. "They're silly and who would go to such lengths to keep their parents from know they failed to get into college?"

"Kids in stupid movies," he shrugged, having no problem with this concept. "Seriously, this gets better with popcorn."

If you got drunk on popcorn.

Re: Watch the movie

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2012-01-02 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fine," she groaned, reaching over to snag a handful of popcorn and pop individual pieces in her mouth.

A few minutes later she leaned over again to complain, "It's not better yet."

Re: Watch the movie

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2012-01-02 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe you just need more popcorn," he suggested. "Or you're not relaxed enough."

Re: Watch the movie

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2012-01-02 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe I don't find this relaxing," she grumbled, her thoughts far too centered around graduation and college and grades for that to even be possible. "Are you applying anywhere?"

Re: Watch the movie

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2012-01-02 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Jake shot her a look because was she seriously going to ambush him with questions like that in class? "I dunno."

Re: Watch the movie

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2012-01-02 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly she didn't know what boundaries were supposed to exist.

"How do you not know? Applications are all due like, in the next week." One of those facts she'd been ignoring.

"Caroline, I don't even know what world I'm going to," he murmured, wondering how long she was going to keep this discussion up.

The class certainly wasn't what he had expected but Goose had a feeling that Commander Walsh hadn't read the class description before he signed him up for this class.

Well what Commander Walsh didn't know, wouldn't hurt him.

Richie had some popcorn and a big grin on his face. He hadn't read the course description and he was pretty sure Mac hadn't either. This was great.
