The School Campus, Saturday Noon

It was as if the Nothing had heard Principal Winchester's and Belle's announcement that morning. It smashed harder into the forcefield, which flickered but held its ground. Then it smashed into it again, and this time the flicker gave an inch of ground.

Soon, the forcefield was flickering constantly, sometimes budging, sometimes not, but one thing was clear: the Nothing was closing in, and whether it be five, ten, or fifteen minutes, campus was not going to hold.

It was time to move.

Otters didn't overly concern themselves with little things like public announcements, or the world ending, being far more focused on important things like swimming, so Lex the otter was quite content to splash around in the basement pool until he inevitably blinked out of existence.

Kerrigan had felt incredibly unbalanced since River had gone yesterday - and more and more vindictive. Her zerg instincts demanded that she devour this enemy, destroy it, but she could not.

Eventually, her survival instinct lost to the zerg instinct.

"I AM THE SWARM!" she bellowed at the Nothing.

The Nothing was not impressed. As it quickly demonstrated.

Dolf was on his way, but it had been a long time since he'd had to run this hard.

He was counting his breaths as he went, Nana on his heels--

--and then she gained on him, accidentally slamming into his ankles. He went down to the ground, the forcefield blinked--

And then he was gone.

Parker was headed for the library when her way got cut off. Nowhere to go but back. Goddamnit. She tried circling around, heading further out, but the Nothing was closing in by the second.

Damnit, damnit, she'd wanted to be with her friends, hoped they'd realize what happened, didn't waste time worrying too long--

Nothing in front, nothing behind. She took a breath and faced the Nothing.

You can kill me but you don't. Scare. Me--

Petra had not exactly bought it when the principal and librarian announced that the only safe place was Special Collections. What made the room where they kept the books you needed permission to look at so special that it could protect them? Did it have lead walls? Whatever.

So she was still in her room and about to get an object lesson in trusting in the Fandom weird when the Nothing came.

Morrigan had long ago run out of her own mana reserves, and gone through so many of her lyrium potions that she was shaking from the side effects, her body feeling as though she should be able to channel the universe even as her own health failed.

A Telekinetic Burst failed to throw back the encroaching darkness, and Morrigan gritted her teeth before biting into her palm, teeth tearing away skin and blood welling up as she whispered the words that would let her draw power from her own lifeforce.

It was a working of Massive Magic, the way the Fade surged through her, answering her demands. Her skin cracked, veins of blue and red light pulsing and glowing as her humanity started to fade away in the presence of the powers she wielded.

That she managed not to die in the first few seconds was miracle enough. That Morrigan continued for another fifteen minutes after that would make even Flemeth proud of her daughter's work.

Blood Magic, however, has a cost, and there is only so far you may drain your own health before that price must be paid. Morrigan's eyes rolled back in her head as she fainted, and the Nothing surged forward before she even hit the ground, wiping her from the roof as if she'd never been there at all.

Given she'd double-checked the pack she usually kept within arms-length of her bed last night and again that morning, and wasn't even pretending she wasn't carrying her weapons (because, what were they going to do, give her detention?) Cara wasn't really waiting for anything.

Okay, she might have been keeping an eye out for stragglers, but you'd never get her to admit it.

Peter was quickly starting to re-evaluate all the important life decisions he'd made up to this point. He hadn't gathered much: some clothes, a suit, his desk, and stuffed them into a small bag before running for the door.

And then down the stairs.

And then across the dorm grounds.

Not that he was very aware of anything right now beyond that: he hadn't slept a wink last night, half-terrified of the Nothing and half-paranoid that Professor Oz might have bombed his bed while he'd left for class, and, okay, slightly annoyed by Topher's invasion of his space.

So things were a little blurry, all in all.

It wasn't exactly as though Jono had anything to grab, small cat aside, before making his run to the school from the lobby of the dorms, where he'd made his best attempt at sleep last night. And failed miserably.

As soon as he heard the announcement, as loathe as he was to sat foot in that bloody place, he was booking it towards the library.

Self-preservation was actually winning, today. Huh.

Jack had slept (as much as he could, anyhow) in one of the common areas the night before, surmising waltzing in and reclaiming his old dorm room might be a step too far even now.

He'd packed up the little he'd brought to Fandom to being with and yesterday's Kwik Stop supplies before the announcement was made, so it was a simple matter of gathering them up and heading out. As he went, he kept an eye open to see if his temporary housemates -- or anyone else he knew -- were making the jaunt as well.

Topher, who probably would have slept through the announcement if it weren't for the noise of Peter packing, was perhaps not working as efficiently as possible. He scrambled across the hall to his room, dug out a bag and began shoving things in it -- a few laptops, some shirts, pajamas, dice, his phone.

Yes, dice.

And then he flailed his way down the hall and a flight of stairs before abruptly remembering that he still had Tony's phone in his room somewhere, and ran back for it.

Yeah, it was pretty surprising the kid was still alive.

Sam had started packing up the moment the announcement started. She grabbed a trashbag (it held more than her busted up suitcase) and started throwing in extra clothes, then loaded up as much food as she could carry -- which was quite a lot.

Alas, she had to leave the remains of her last ham behind. She sniffled as she hefted her bag to go. "I'll miss you, baby," she told it.

Then the force field started failing and Sam screamed and bolted.

And that would be Miley attempting to wheel two large, glittery pink suitcases down the stairs and over to the library.

This, of course, involved her usual show of dramatics.

"I'm not gonna make it!" she wailed at one point when her bag got stuck on some kind of thread and refused to wheel. "I'm just going to get eaten right here!"

But eventually she made it, albeit with only one of the bags. Weren't the other denizens of Special Collections lucky?

Wesley had insisted that he and Katniss be prepared for the possibility of an evacuation on Thursday, so he already had a bag of essentials hanging on the back of the door by the time the announcement was made. Then it was a simple matter of running. Which he did.

(He'd said it years ago: The three key words for any Slayer: preparation, preparation, preparation. Buffy had laughed, but look at him not get Nothinged now.)

Knowing that he was almost out of candy, Bruce made a quick stop in the dorm kitchens looking for anything that might be useful if the Auditors found their way to Special Collections and they had to fight more.

A few minutes later, he had two pouches filled with sugar packets. That would have to do. With that, Bruce fired his grapple out the fifth floor window to the school building and used the cable as a zip line to make up some of the time he lost with his search.

Look, if he couldn't do that NOW of all times, when COULD he do it?

Columbus had spent the night in his office and as soon as he heard the principal's announcement, hightailed to Special collections with a rolling suitcase and a shotgun in tow.

Jack didn't grab much. Just the laptop (aka SARAH) and a picture of Zoe (his daughter not the principal).

"C'mon, Lojack let's-"

Lojack barked and bolted out the door, not even bothering to wait for Jack.

"Hey! At least wait for me! So much for man's best friend."

Stark had been half asleep in a corner of a common room when the announcement was made. He grabbed what little he had with him (mostly a small assortment of cupcakes leftover from yesterday) and ran. He would freak out when he got there. Probably a lot.
