It was entirely possible that students might recognize the layout of the Danger Shop today. It was also possible that they wouldn't. After all, some of them probably hadn't paid any attention to last week's movie.

But for those who had, things probably looked suspiciously like the (completely historically accurate) jousting grounds from the film.

"Today you're going to live a day in the life of a European knight." As interpreted by Hollywood during a period in which historical accuracy hadn't been much of a priority, and ridiculousness had. "While no one is required to joust, that's mostly a concession to the fact that not all of you have ridden before. Still, I recommend you try it anyway."

Max grinned. "And even if you don't, you'll be dueling. Remember that while honorable combat is epitomized in the joust, other forms of dueling are acceptable. There are horses and weapons, from which you may take your pick."

Max's grin widened. "Oh, and armor." Full plate, already sized for each student and hanging on an armor stand with their name attached. "Which each and every one of you is required to wear." Somehow Max managed not to snicker. "I recommend you give each other a hand with it since it's not really designed to be put on by a single person. And if you require further assistance, don't hesitate to ask for it." Because Max would gladly ~~laugh at~~ help anyone who needed it.

"So armor up, grab some weapons, and defend your honor."

Is really just a chance for Max to watch people's faces as they realize they're going to have to wear plate mail.

Why would you do do that sort of thing? It looked painful! On the other hand, Sov was getting used to having to do odd things in this class.

Sam wondered if the plate mail meant that she could just smack people around and they wouldn't feel it.

That'd be pretty cool.

Help each other out, or just flail. Max is okay with either one!

Lifting one of the pieces, Sov realized one thing: the full armour would be heavy.

"You have to be really strong to carry around all this," they frowned.

Max heard that, and chuckled. "There's a reason most knights spent most of their time on horses when they could get away with it."

"How did they manage get on the horse?" Sov had to ask, putting a helmet on their head.

"With help," Max laughed. "Lots of it. Which is why getting knocked off said horse was so bad in a fight. You couldn't get back on by yourself."

Sam held up a breast plate. "This thing has more straps than the outfits my cousin Annie wears when she goes clubbing."

Which wasn't easy to do.

Let OTHER people ask for help. The solid steel wasn't too heavy for Squall to lift, and he had a pretty good idea how to put on the pieces. A few of the straps were hard to reach, but he managed all right.

Marshall just stared at the pieces of plate mail, picking one up and turning it from side to side as he tried to figure out how it was supposed to go on.

Oh, yikes. Gabrielle had enough trouble putting Xena's armor on that one time; plate armor was just going to be a catastrophe for her.

So . . . she'd just be flailing for a while.

Alex sighed and started strapping on his armor. When he came to the parts he couldn't reach himself, he'd ask for help.

He didn't really notice the weight.

Joust or fight on foot. Though Max really hopes you try the jousting bit out.

Sam would get around to jousting in a bit. Right now she was ~~playing with~~ trying out a morning star.

Squall climbed onto a horse without much trouble. Controlling said horse was a little harder. Squall hadn't thought that riding a horse would be much different than riding a chocobo, but the animal was determined to prove him wrong. It clearly didn't like him, and was just being difficult.

Still, he managed to maneuver it to the lists and get ready to joust.

When they sign in!

Max wasn't laughing.

Openly.

Cindy was drinking her coffee. A lot. And certainly not grinning into her coffee. That would be wrong!

That was okay. Max was smirking enough (and didn't have coffee to even bother hiding behind if he wanted to) for both of them. Being a teacher was awesome!
