Ethics [Tuesday, November 15, 2011, 1st period]

After receiving Ben's message on Saturday, to say that Anakin was a little anxious to see what had happened to the droid babies over the past week was vastly understating things.

Anakin had never really that lesson about letting things go and he'd always had an affinity for building his own friends droids.

None of that anxiety showed on his face as he breezed into the classroom and leaned against his desk. "So I hear it was an interesting weekend," he said, sounding a little dry. "It gives us an excellent opportunity to talk about how our morality can evolve over time. Something you thought was icky and wrong as a five year old--kissing other people, for instance, or taking regular baths--can be part of your everyday life as a teenager."

Especially the bath thing, Anakin hoped.

"And while children often play at raising other children through play, they aren't really that equipped to be primary caretakers for another living being." So thank the Force they'd had droids. "Tell me about your adventures as parents this week and how that shifted over the weekend, or if you'd prefer, discuss three ways your views have changed on the world since you were a child."

Mercy shrugged. "I insisted on giving him a name."

"Bryan Robot," Mercy said. "No decision on a last name, but at least he had a first and middle, so we weren't referring to him as an it."

She considered that for a moment. "There really aren't a lot of kids where I grew up, so I don't have much experience with them. Still, yeah, it wasn't much different from what I expected. Just a lot of work."

"Yes," she agreed. "A lot of work, but you can see where they'd be worth it if they were your kid."

"I think... my partner and I didn't exactly see eye to eye and mostly just switched off with Bryan - until the weekend when I sort of ended up leaving him with another student because I was too young to know how to take care of him," Mercy said thoughtfully. "That made it harder. Plus, usually before you have a child, there's all the lead up period to getting ready for it, which we didn't have."

"I, uh, didn't let it cry too much?" Luke tried. "I wasn't really attached to it or was...too concerned about her well being."

In his defense he was technically kind of evil. One should expect these things from bad guys.

"Oh I like kids, I've been taking care of them most my life," he said. "It was definitely the droid thing."

"I gave it to Ben for two lollipops," Kenzi said, looking regretful. "Otherwise I think I did okay."

She'd used Darya as cover for shoplifting and pickpocketing, and given her rum to make her sleep. Clearly, Kenzi was going to be an awesome parent.

"I was nine!" Kenzi grinned though. "And he made it sound like babysitting, after he proved he wasn't a kidnapper by having a lollipop first."

"I... made sure it- she- got all the basic stuff taken care of, when it was my turn to watch her," Toby said. He hadn't been able to get especially invested, though, given the fact that it brought up weird memories and the lack of mental presence in something otherwise so lifelike had been unsettling.

"I was very, very good to our baby, just in case it grows up to be a time-travelling assassin robot," Hank answered. "Also, he giggles when I tickle him!!!"

"...So, you're ADMITTING it?!?!? I knew it!!!"

Hank looked pleased with himself, rather than scared. "So... does it have laser eyes?"

"Well, I have absolutely no idea how the weekend with the droid baby went for my partner, since it my off day when we turned. And the next day... well, I had no idea either one of them existed."

Which, was probably a good thing.

"I kind of treated it like a pet," Juliet said. "It wasn't that much harder than a little dog, except for the diapers and being more fun to dress."

"I mostly tried to make sure she didn't cry much," Richie said. When he had it and it wasn't being dismantled and reassembled by a tiny Tony. And he made sure Topher wasn't allowed to babysit. That was VERY moral, right? "So I guess I covered the basics while I was in charge of the robo-baby."
