Library, Sunday 11/13

Some instinct drew Raven to the library Sunday morning, and she didn't try to resist it. She liked libraries, having spent many of her young years in the Great Library of Azarath reading about mysticism and science and some history of her mother's world.

She had to stack several thick books on the chair behind the front counter so she could reach the top. Perched on top of the pile, she lost herself in reading about demonology. You know, typical six year old reading.

"Raven, Raven, Raven!" Bobby announced as he wandered in to the library. Not his usual haunt, but today he had a mission. "I need some help!"

Raven peered over the top of the desk. "What is it, Robert?" she asked. "Are you injured?"

"Bobby," Bobby heaved the sigh of someone who'd had this conversation before. "I'm fine, but I need books about rabbits. It's a emergency!"

They had surely had this dozens of times, but Raven wouldn't budge. Robert was his name, and Robert was what she would call him.

...this despite liking the not-her-name Jono had been calling her the previous day. (Or, well, Jonothon if you wanted to be technical about it.)

"Why do you need books about rabbits?" she asked.

"Cause. There's a bunny in my room and I dunno how to take care of him best." Bobby explained.

"This library does not work like Azarath. I cannot think of a book and make it appear," Raven said. She peered at the library computer. "I think this will help us, however."

She typed "rabbit" on the keyboard and waited to see what would come up on the screen.

Bobby leaned over the counter, trying to get a look at the screen. "What's it say?"

"You will find the books you require in section 599, Mammalia," Raven said, scanning the list of titles. "I will show you where that is. Please follow me."

"Kay," Bobby jumped down, following alongside Raven. "Is it fun workin' in here?" he asked.

"It is usually very quiet and conducive to study," Raven said as she led the way through the stacks.

Usually. ROBERT.

She found the dewey decimal system "quaint," but at least it was relatively easy to find particular subjects.

Pfff. It was Bobby's mission in life to make sure certain other people didn't spend all their time hiding away from everything fun.

...That wasn't actually all that different from when he was a teenager, really.

"What's conducive?" he wondered.

"Favorable," Raven said. Bigger words were totally better.

She came to a stop at the right section and scanned the shelves. "There," she said, pointing to a shelf that was just over their heads. "Books about the care and feeding of leporidae."

Bobby was used to big words from Hank, so he just nodded. And then frowned when Raven pointed out the books. "Leopards? But we were looking for bunnies!"

"Leporidae is scientific term for hares and rabbits," Raven said primly.

After a pause, she added, "And bunnies."

As you do.

There was a whole room full of books. This was even more books than Tyrion's father had, even counting the ones Tyrion wasn't supposed to look at.

After wandering around for a while in awe, he pulled down a handful of books from the highest shelf he could reach and made himself a little nest in one of the study carrells, where he would no doubt stay until someone dislodged him.

If she's there today.

I'm around off and on until I drive home late this afternoon.
