Cultural Understanding, Monday.

"Welcome," Alistair greeted the students, looking fairly pleased with himself. "Have some candy! We've got plenty. They keep handing it out everywhere!" Possibly because Alistair almost never took his armor off...

Or because some squirrels wanted to see how much sugar it would take before Morrigan turned him into a frog again. Judging by the way her jaw was set, critical mass was probably going to be sometime soon.

"Please don't eat it all at once," she sighed. "For you will need some for class today, and I will not hold your head if you eat yourself ill on sweets."

"Right," Alistair said. He took another handful of candy, and grinned. "We were... going to talk about games today. The ways we play, what we play, that sort of thing. I mean, everyone learns to play every now and again, right? Even if the bloody clerics tell you to stay put and be a good boy, Alistair--" He swallowed down some candy. "--Actually, those are the best games. The looks on their faces!"

"'Tis certain you would not approve of the games my mother taught me," Morrigan said, mildly. "But, 'tis my understanding that nearly all cultures enjoy a good wager."

"So today, you all get to introduce and play some games from your home worlds," Alistair said cheerfully. "And bet on them!"

He stole some more candy. Sigh.

Morrigan's eye twitched. Slightly. "Keep your betting to the candy, if you will," she continued. "Unless you are willing to risk losing more than you have."

"And that's not what we're here to educate you about!" Alistair chirped. "Heeee."

Raven was very quiet and distracted during the lecture today, her thoughts on Jono and what had happened to him, and keeping her own emotions under control.

"Azarath had no games," Raven said simply, for once glad that she had nothing to really offer on the topic.

"There are a lot of games at home," Ben offered helpfully, "but the two favorites in my family are dejarik--which is a variation on chess--and sabacc, which is like poker but more astral. The cards can change their faces halfway through the game."

"There's an excellent game called cradle we play back home," Karla said eagerly. "It started off as a children's card game, but my friends and I have modified it to be even more fun as you get older. It's played with cards and a board and some colored stones and bone discs and things--but it's pretty simple to learn! I'd be happy to show anyone how to play if they're interested!"

There was always Queen's chess if they weren't.

Ben was looking at Candyland: so far it didn't seem to be quite as eating intensive as he'd been hoping for.

Karla had set up a game of cradle and was watching everyone else hopefully, in case they wanted to play.

[Canon note: There is something about the game that 'defies male thinking.' Girls can enjoy it or not, depending on their tastes, but guys get frustrated, aggravated, and confused just trying to figure out how to play. It leaves them whimpering after a few rounds. This is, of course, negotiable depending on your character.]

Alistair was there, and practically vibrating with sugar.

Poor Morrigan.
