"Good morning, class," Anakin said, sweeping into the classroom and taking up his usual position of leaning against his desk at the front. "Today we learn about Immanuel Kant," he began, gesturing to the TAs to hand out information on the man. "He was an influential German philosopher on this planet several hundred years ago who thought every action should have pure intention behind it; otherwise it was meaningless. He did not necessarily believe that the final result was the most important aspect of an action, but that how the person felt while carrying out the action was the time at which value was set to the result."

In his mind, Anakin could hear Obi-Wan nattering on about how many of the truths people cling to depending upon their point of view. He shook his head to clear it and continued. "In other words, it's not the results that make something moral but why you made that decision, and Kant believed that only decisions made purely out of duty have moral worth. For instance, Kant spoke of a shopkeeper who passed up the chance to shortchange a customer only because his business might suffer if other customers found out. According to Kant, the shopkeeper’s action had no moral worth because he did the right thing for the wrong reason."

He paced the room. "What do you think of Kant's conclusion? Is he being too hard on that shopkeeper? What of people who are in the habit of being good without thinking? Is that being moral, or just being conditioned to interact correctly with society?"

"What, you're not gonna live fast, die young, leave a good-looking corpse?" Kenzi shook her head. "Dude. You'd get the best eulogies that way."

"Maybe, but eulogies fade in the public mind," Peter said idly. "And while living fast and dying young might be an easy path into the history books if you're clever, I'd like to be there and do something that matters instead. For as long as I can manage it."

"You could fake your death? Best of both worlds?" Kenzi grinned. "And then come back... but no. You're being all respectable. Too dramatic. Too bad."

Peter rolled his eyes. "Do that, and you'd immediately become a laughing stock," he said, "Nobody would trust your word again - unless you had some really noble reason to do it."

"To go undercover with the Mob?" Kenzi shook her head. "For you, it would be, oh, undercover with... something legal-eagle in your world. Getting info." She cocked her head. "Resurfacing with-- um. Key information to stop a war? Ha. That works. Except I don't think you'd last undercover that long."

Undercover would probably involve taking orders. Peter loathed taking orders.

Still... he'd technically been undercover for years already, wasn't he? "Hey, who knows," he said, nonchalantly. "I might have depths you don't know about."

"You do have a sneaky streak," Kenzi agreed. "If it ever happens, text me after. You know, from the hospital or the victory lap."

Peter laughed. "What, you don't want to pose as my Russian mistress?"

Kenzi smirked at him, and affected a much more realistic accent than that weird weekend. "Only if there is no vunny business, and ze pay is good, sir." Dropping it, she added, "You might stay alive longer that way."

"Oh, I can keep myself alive," Peter said ~~possibly mistaken~~. "But if I ever decide to go undercover with the mob, I'll call you."
