The Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Though he'd heard about something like it being in the works, the club fair wasn't what Simon had been looking for.

Regardless, it was what he found, just as it was being set up. He almost left straight away, to avoid being in anyone's way, but then his curiosity won out. So, he decided to stay and take a look at the club schedule.

Couldn't hurt, could it?

After a good chunk of the day had passed, Warren finally sighed, left the frat table for a few minutes, and made his way over to the sorority booth.

"Okay, I know you guys aren't poisoning the cupcakes or anything," he said, because that was a great conversation starter, "and you're pretty obviously the female counterparts to our own group," he waved over to the KKG table, "but maybe you've got some better sort of insight about why girls keep getting irritated that the fraternity is boys only."

Because he was totally at a loss. He didn't exactly see a herd of guys trying to sign up for the sorority, after all. It just didn't make sense to.

"Ugh, I don't know," Quinn said. She had pretty much no interest in hanging out and eating pizza with a bunch of guys.

After a moment's thought: "Probably because we're kind of told from birth that guys are more interesting. In stories, guys are the heroes, girls shriek or do sidekick duty. I can see why some people are delusional enough to think you're the better club."

Warren took a moment to kind of pause and squint, there.

"Delusional?" Oh, it was so on, Quinn. Sort of. Warren wasn't exactly the militant sort. "I'd like to think that we're probably about on par, at least. It's hard to say, since we can't really cross-attend meetings to compare or anything."

Ah, diplomacy.

"You'd think girls around here would know better than to buy into that strong male stereotype, anyhow. I mean... look at this place, right?"

Warren's girlfriend could kick his ass. He was pretty okay with that.

"Delusional," Quinn repeated, cheerfully. She was a senior class representative and she had a fraternity guy to tease: It was a very good day.

"And yeah, you'd think. But there's still this whole thing where it's cool for girls to want to hang with guys, and lame for guys to want to hang with girls." She shrugged. "If you want to drop in on a meeting sometime, it's fine with me if it's fine with Rilla."

"...Really? You think the girls would be comfortable with that?"

He was kind of adamantly redirecting them across to this table whenever they showed up at his booth, after all.

"Well, what kind of things do you do in the Sorority? Maybe we can compare notes?"

"I'm not inviting you to a sleepover," Quinn assured him. "But if it was just a business meeting, and you were just there to observe. I don't see the harm."

She shrugged. "We're really focused on self-improvement, so we do volunteer stuff, fundraising for charity, career workshops ... and then we have pillow fights in lingerie."

She wanted to see if she could make him choke, with that last part.

"What do you do in the frat?"

"Fundraising," Warren replied, because he knew they did that. "And then we have contests to see who can hold a belch for the longest before we gorge ourselves on nachos and watch cheap porn."

He had spent way too much time around the boyos in Kaeleer to really be phased too much by the lingerie pillowfights. The things they actually did there were way more choke-worthy, most of the time.

Quinn's eyes flicked over Warren quickly. "You look like a guy who could at least afford expensive porn," she observed. "Slumming?"

Expensive porn nothing. Warren could afford an expensive porn studio.

"We try to cater to guys of all tastes," he replied. He even managed to say that with a straight face. "And if they're not interested in whatever's showing that week, there'll be plenty of pay-per-view sports playing on the other side of the room."

Yeah. He was totally just pulling this out of his ass.

"So you cater to a wide range of male tastes," Quinn said,. "I'm impressed. With us, all there is to do when we finish the pillow fights is lounge around and talk about what pigs men are. Sometimes we cry."

"Hey, that's fair. I mean, when we're not watching porn or having belching contests, we spend a lot of time ranting about how women are all moody and don't make any sense."

... Okay, they really didn't make any sense.

"But we do try to develop strategies involving flowers and ice cream, in order to help us when we're faced with crying girls."

"Unacceptable," Quinn said, almost managing a straight face. "You're forgetting chocolate and hugs."

"I'll have to add them to the agenda for the next meeting," Warren decided, putting a fair bit of effort into sounding perfectly serious. "Do you suppose teddy bears would be taking it too far?"

"Depends. Is the girl crying because she's bloated and thinks she's fat, or because you cheated on her?" Quinn wanted to know. "PMS does not require teddies. Cheating does."

"I'm not much of a cheater," Warren noted, "weird weekends where everyone goes insane aside. But I kind of figured teddies were an every occasion sort of gift. Or was I confusing those with puppies?"

"Weekends where everyone goes insane don't count," Quinn said firmly. (if they did, she was a cheater too.) "And it depends on if you mean lingerie teddies, or fluffy toy teddies."

"Both," Warren decided. "Absolutely both."

He'd gotten Karla a corset for Christmas, once. Teddies were probably not out of the question.

"See, one says 'I think you're cute' and the other says 'I want to see you in this ... until I see you out of it,'" Quinn pointed out. "They're both good gifts, but it's different messages."

An idea struck her. "We should do a joint session on relationships.

"You know... I like that idea."

He did! That wasn't even joking with a straight face!

"What would we cover? Communication? Safe sex?"

"Hunh." It took Quinn a second to shift back into serious mode. "Maybe just do a Q&A about communication and stuff. We did sex ed last year, but" -- quick glance to Rilla -- "my co-chair is a wee bit Edwardian."

"Oh." Warren kind of felt silly for not even thinking that far. Of course that would be kind of awkward. "Communication then, sure. And maybe dating tips or... Something."

He mostly filled in the 'something' because he realized that he was about to start sounding like a Teen Beat magazine.

"A dating guide to the island," Quinn suggested. "... though we always end up at Outback anyhow."

"I usually end up hitting up a few places for the best of everything, and doing the whole picnic-on-the-beach routine," Warren admitted. "But the Outback does have those great potatoes..."

"I'm all about the onions and the shrimp," Quinn declared. "And the cocktails when they forget to card."

"Oh, yeah? I haven't tried the cocktails yet," Warren mused. "I might have to pick up a few, the next time I'm there."

It was kind of pointless to card Warren for something as fluffy as a single drink. Even when he did get drunk, his genetics went and decided that he wasn't going to stay that way for long.
