The Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Though he'd heard about something like it being in the works, the club fair wasn't what Simon had been looking for.

Regardless, it was what he found, just as it was being set up. He almost left straight away, to avoid being in anyone's way, but then his curiosity won out. So, he decided to stay and take a look at the club schedule.

Couldn't hurt, could it?

Quinn was psyched for sorority this year, and it didn't take much effort for her to look happy as she sat at the table and prepared to chat up anybody who wandered into earshot.

And that would be Shira wandering into earshot, considering the clubs and ending up in front of the table that Quinn was at.

"What exactly does this club do?" she asked curiously.

"All kinds of things," Quinn told her. "We do a lot of volunteer work, we fundraise for charity, we talk about colleges and careers. And there are parties and makeovers."

She was surveying Shira a bit, trying to see where her ears would perk up.

Shira wasn't sure about some of it, but some of what Quinn said sounded interesting. "What kind of volunteer work? Or is it kinda varied?"

"Last year we did park clean-up, a fun run and a bake sale," Quinn answered. "But it's open. If there's something you really want to do, you can bring it up at a meeting."

"Cool." Shira smiled. "I am so signing up, I think."

She needed something more to do with herself, anyway.

Angelica paused at the sorority table. "Um, hi," she said shyly. "Can anybody join?"

As far as she knew, sororities were only for rich girls.

"Anybody who thinks a sorority sounds like fun, sure," Quinn smiled. (She might have liked to make it more selective, but she knew the school was not exactly ripe for that.) "We'd probably talk about it a lot if a guy wanted to join, but that's about it. Are you interested?"

Re: Talk to the Representatives - Kappa Delta Gremlin

[identity profile] whitequeensfire.livejournal.com 2011-09-16 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes," Angelica said with a smile. She'd been wanting to get out more and make friends now that she wasn't as worried about exposing herself as a mutant or burning the school down. "What kind of stuff do you do?"

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2011-09-16 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"It really varies," Quinn said. "We're mostly about self-improvement and giving back to the community, so we do things like have a fun run to raise money. But there are also makeovers, slumber parties .. just hanging out."

[identity profile] whitequeensfire.livejournal.com 2011-09-16 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"That sounds like a lot of fun," Angelica said. And a way to make more friends! "I'd love to join if I can."

After a good chunk of the day had passed, Warren finally sighed, left the frat table for a few minutes, and made his way over to the sorority booth.

"Okay, I know you guys aren't poisoning the cupcakes or anything," he said, because that was a great conversation starter, "and you're pretty obviously the female counterparts to our own group," he waved over to the KKG table, "but maybe you've got some better sort of insight about why girls keep getting irritated that the fraternity is boys only."

Because he was totally at a loss. He didn't exactly see a herd of guys trying to sign up for the sorority, after all. It just didn't make sense to.

"Ugh, I don't know," Quinn said. She had pretty much no interest in hanging out and eating pizza with a bunch of guys.

After a moment's thought: "Probably because we're kind of told from birth that guys are more interesting. In stories, guys are the heroes, girls shriek or do sidekick duty. I can see why some people are delusional enough to think you're the better club."

Warren took a moment to kind of pause and squint, there.

"Delusional?" Oh, it was so on, Quinn. Sort of. Warren wasn't exactly the militant sort. "I'd like to think that we're probably about on par, at least. It's hard to say, since we can't really cross-attend meetings to compare or anything."

Ah, diplomacy.

"You'd think girls around here would know better than to buy into that strong male stereotype, anyhow. I mean... look at this place, right?"

Warren's girlfriend could kick his ass. He was pretty okay with that.

"Delusional," Quinn repeated, cheerfully. She was a senior class representative and she had a fraternity guy to tease: It was a very good day.

"And yeah, you'd think. But there's still this whole thing where it's cool for girls to want to hang with guys, and lame for guys to want to hang with girls." She shrugged. "If you want to drop in on a meeting sometime, it's fine with me if it's fine with Rilla."

"...Really? You think the girls would be comfortable with that?"

He was kind of adamantly redirecting them across to this table whenever they showed up at his booth, after all.

"Well, what kind of things do you do in the Sorority? Maybe we can compare notes?"

Lucrezia recognized the blonde girl as one of those running for student council. In fact, it seemed both the club heads were running, though not against one another.

She offered Quinn a brief smile.

"Pray tell, what is a sorority?" she asked.

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2011-09-17 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
"A group of girls who meet to improve themselves," Quinn answered. "Hi! And you're ... the girl I owe cupcakes to."

Re: Talk to the Representatives - Kappa Delta Gremlin

[identity profile] holy-daughter.livejournal.com 2011-09-17 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Lucrezia," she said, bowing her head. "The girl brazen enough to ask about bribery at the debate. I seem to have offended most of the candidates by doing so. I also forgot to collect the cupcakes."

Improving herself certainly sounded like an important goal.

"May anyone join?" she asked.

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2011-09-17 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Pretty much," Quinn said. "I might ask new girls to bring food, and a guy would get a really funny look if he tried to join, but yeah, we aren't selective."

Because the school wouldn't let them be.

"I'd probably convince someone else to bake," Lucrezia laughed. "Is that acceptable?"

She was adding her name to the list, nonetheless.

"So what does the sorority do here?" Petra wanted to know. "And there's not, like, hazing or anything, is there?"

Re: Talk to the Representatives - Kappa Delta Gremlin

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2011-09-17 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"The school wouldn't put up with hazing, but I have been telling new girls they had to bring food to the first meeting," Quinn answered. "We do lots of stuff. Community service, career training, and then also slumber parties and makeovers."

She smiled, recognizing the girl from the debates. "Congratulations on the election, by the way."

"Congratulations to you, too!" Petra said, and then she saw a potential problem here. "Okay, slumber parties and makeover nights were part of my campaign platform. I guess the more slumber parties and makeovers the better?"

"No worries, community service was part of my campaign platform too," Quinn said. "It's a quiet island. I don't think there's such a thing as too many planned activities."
