"Hello, class," Anakin said. "Welcome back ~~to this, the second day after my granddaughter's wedding...~~ I trust that by being in class, you have recovered from the weekend and are no longer praying for death or amnesia, and will be able to participate fully in this discussion."

He went to the board and scrawled: "Utilitarianism: it is the greatest happiness of the greatest number that is the measure of right and wrong," then turned to face his students. "Do you think this is true? If what gives the majority pleasure is watching Christians getting eaten by lions, or a four-day-marathon of Fear Factor, does that make it right? What will protect the rights of the individual--who in this example might be a Christian who enjoys PBS--or do those really matter?"

"Suppose we have to choose between building a new sports stadium and building a new hospital. Should we build the stadium if there are many more sports fans than sick people? What about the sick people? Aren’t we sacrificing their interests?"

Jack was there. With probably the biggest cup of coffee you have ever seen.

It was almost worth dealing with all the crazy to have coffee back.

It was really too early for moral philosophizing.

Luckily there was a giant mug of coffee to use to help Jack from going bleary eyed during the lecture.

Nathan was still a little grumpy because of what his other self who totally wasn't him by a fucking long shot had done this past weekend but he was there.

He really, really wanted to light up a smoke to keep himself calm but he had a feeling that the professor of this class might take an unholy amount of glee in punishing him so he just slouched at his desk and tapped his fingers.

Yeah, Nathan's head hit the desk as soon as the lecture started. It stayed there throughout the entire lecture. He was listening but he was also banging his head against the desk and wondering why he had to fucking think right now.

Luke was also enjoying both the return of coffee and fall by having a huge pumpkin spice latte. Best thing about autumn, really.

"People don't give a flying fu -- fudge about people who live on the fringes of society who have different beliefs," Nathan stated, shaking his head. "Where d'you think the whole 'majority rules' thing comes from? People elect world leaders by a majority so obviously those people who are in the minority are gonna have to fight and scrape and claw and whine and everything else to get noticed. No, it's not right but it's how things go. Easiest way to govern countries of eight gillion people, mate."

Yeah, Toby was pretty much over the weirdness of the weekend. Although he might feel differently of h happened to run in to Sam. And he was still freaking shoeless. Sigh. But he was here and even reasonably awake, thanks to the return of caffiene.

Toby certainly was, bare feet and all.

Topher was in the "happily doing his own thing" camp, thanks. So, so happily.

He was playing video games under the table. Fun.

"Build the stadium," Topher said easily. "There's plenty of hospitals already. Go with what the people want."

Annie was mostly dealing with the weekend okay now. Except that she had class with Luke, and she wasn't used to kissing a lot of people, let alone ones she didn't know, so she really had no idea what protocol was here. Did you look at them? Not look?

Annie was just going to get ready to take notes and not look anywhere.
