Sensitivity Training, Thursday, September 8th

Guy looked no happier about teaching Sensitivity Training than he did last week. The key difference, however, was that this time he was armed with a book all about this crap. So, prepare to have sensitivity shoved all up in your face. Indigo Tribe style.

"Apperently, in order for you all to really learn this cr--stuff, you need to be in a trusting environment where you feel at ease." Yeah, he didn't think that was likely either. "So, we're gonna do a few exercises to build up trust."

He glanced down at the book. "Or look like a moron until you don't care anymore."

It might work!

"The first activity is 'mirroring' where you and another person touch fingertips and try to move in sync," Guy said, so far from impressed by this. So, so far. "The other one is more straight forward, being a trust fall. You fall, the other person catches you. Easy enough. Just don't surprise anyone with 'em."

Unless you film it.

"I want everyone to grab a partner and decide which activity you'd rather do."

Ironically Jack felt more comfortable doing this exercises here at Fandom than he would back home. Especially if Jo was his partner. In fact if Jo was here, Jack was pretty sure she and guy would be of the same mindset of this class.

Anyhow, these were the thoughts in Jack's head as he looked around for a partner.

"You're tall," Quinn informed him. "Do you drop people? Don't tell me you drop people."

Yes, she was doing a trust fall. It sounded slightly less annoying than the dancing, and she'd spent enough time cheering to know she could catch herself if things went wrong.

"I haven't dropped anyone yet," Jack said after a moment's pause to think. "In fact, I'm really not a dropping thing kind of guy."

See if you drop things in Eureka? Things blow up. Jack preferred to not have anything blown up. Hence no dropping things.

"I'll partner with you if you think you can manage not to start dropping things now," Quinn proposed.

"All right, I promise," Jack said holding up three fingers. "Scout's honor. No dropping. Dropping things? Bad."

And there was a final nod as if that cemented the deal.

"Good." Quinn said firmly. She was going to trust him, and if he messed up, she'd kick his ass.

... metaphorically speaking. No, actually speaking. She hadn't decided.

She got into position in front of him. "On three?"

"Three," Jack agreed positioning himself behind her and... yes taking extra caution to make sure he would catch her.

Judging by her tone... she could probably kick his ass.

"Ready."

Quinn let herself fall into his arms. The thing of it was, the falling-or-flying part was one of the things she honestly missed about cheering. It almost felt too soon when she landed in his arms.

"That was pretty cool, Jack," she said, as she pushed herself back to her feet. "Thanks. I knew you didn't drop people."

"Would that be because you asked and I told you no?" Jack asked in a teasing manner. See? Grin on his face. Totally teasing.

"And because you don't look like a guy who'd let a pretty girl drop on her ass." Flirting. A little. It helped to keep you in practice.

"Well, that just leads to a pretty girl turning into a pissed off girl which is no fun for anyone," Jack... Mostly joked. "So! Think you can handle catching me? Because I'm good with skipping that and the whole bit with mirrors and acting like a mime."

"I was really hoping not to have to do the mime thing," Quinn admitted. "Just gives me the heebies. I'll catch you."

She held up a hand to stop any objection. "I used to cheer. I know how to keep people from falling down, promise."

She jumped from buildings. How was a trust fall supposed to scare her? Still, it seemed more fun than the first activity, so assuming she could find someone to go along with it, Stephanie was up for that one.

"Hey. Do you need a partner?" Dave asked.

Dave was a very trusting person. He figured he'd be great at trsut falls.

"Provided this is class-related and not a questionable pickup line, yes," Stephanie replied, which could have been worded less sarcastically, but at least she was smiling?

"No, it's class-related," Dave said. "If it was a pickup line, I probably would have said 'please' and then wriggled my eyebrows suggestively."

Dave had no idea if that's what he would have done. He wasn't usually in a position to use truly terrible lines.

"As horrifying as that sounds," Stephanie teased, "it's refreshingly honest. What do you want to do, the falling or the catching?"

Re: Trust Exercises

[identity profile] iwishiwasbig.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm pretty trusting even without making someone catch me, so I guess I'll let you fall first," Dave said. "I mean, you can fall and I'll catch you. I won't let you fall all the way down or anything."

INSPIRE THAT TRUST, DAVE!

Weirdly, that was just about what Stephanie's internal monologue was. Who knew?

"Well, if that isn't just a load off my mind," she said as she shifted into position to fall backwards. "It's okay, really! I might only fall a little way down!"

After a moment she added, "I'm kidding, really.I can't help myself with the sarcasm."

[identity profile] iwishiwasbig.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Really? I hadn't noticed," Dave said.

See what he did there? He did sarcasm as he braced for Stephanie to fall.

Re: Trust Exercises

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"And people tell me I should work on my subtlety," Stephanie cracked, letting herself topple.

Re: Trust Exercises

[identity profile] iwishiwasbig.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Dave was a little surprised that Stephanie fell when she did, but he was mostly ready. He caught her and she didn't have to hit the ground or anything.

"For what it's worth, I think the worst time to be subtle is right before you fall. I personally advocate yelling and flailing to make sure the other person knows it's coming."

Re: Trust Exercises

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yay for lack of impact! Stephanie actually really did appreciate that.

"I dunno. Wouldn't that imply I didn't trust you?"

As long as he wasn't stuck with Peter, Ben was going to be fine, okay?
