Sensitivity Training, Thursday, September 8th

Guy looked no happier about teaching Sensitivity Training than he did last week. The key difference, however, was that this time he was armed with a book all about this crap. So, prepare to have sensitivity shoved all up in your face. Indigo Tribe style.

"Apperently, in order for you all to really learn this cr--stuff, you need to be in a trusting environment where you feel at ease." Yeah, he didn't think that was likely either. "So, we're gonna do a few exercises to build up trust."

He glanced down at the book. "Or look like a moron until you don't care anymore."

It might work!

"The first activity is 'mirroring' where you and another person touch fingertips and try to move in sync," Guy said, so far from impressed by this. So, so far. "The other one is more straight forward, being a trust fall. You fall, the other person catches you. Easy enough. Just don't surprise anyone with 'em."

Unless you film it.

"I want everyone to grab a partner and decide which activity you'd rather do."

Weirdly, that was just about what Stephanie's internal monologue was. Who knew?

"Well, if that isn't just a load off my mind," she said as she shifted into position to fall backwards. "It's okay, really! I might only fall a little way down!"

After a moment she added, "I'm kidding, really.I can't help myself with the sarcasm."

"Really? I hadn't noticed," Dave said.

See what he did there? He did sarcasm as he braced for Stephanie to fall.

"And people tell me I should work on my subtlety," Stephanie cracked, letting herself topple.

Dave was a little surprised that Stephanie fell when she did, but he was mostly ready. He caught her and she didn't have to hit the ground or anything.

"For what it's worth, I think the worst time to be subtle is right before you fall. I personally advocate yelling and flailing to make sure the other person knows it's coming."

Yay for lack of impact! Stephanie actually really did appreciate that.

"I dunno. Wouldn't that imply I didn't trust you?"

"Maybe. But I still think it's the way to go, at least when you're not doing trust exercises," Dave said.
