Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Once people got through their introductions and initial brain breaking, some of them would surely want to sit down. Luckily, there were plenty of tables and chairs set up across the lawn, some in the shade, some out in the open, some close to the buffet, and some in as much of a shadowy corner as one could get in an outdoor space with no actual walls. It was all part of the Fandom experience, really.

"She's a pink pony, and she's totally hyper and magic." Age had nothing to do with that! "But yeah. Then she started talking to me, and I waited for my hands to start trailing rainbows and shit. That part never happened, though."

"She also can't possibly be real, a distinction I would not so much have gotten when I was five," Petra pointed out. "I've sort of been waiting for that, too. I saw teacup dragons, though. They were with my roommate."

"Seriously?!" Kenzi craned her neck, looking around for those, because dude. Dragons. She brought her gaze back around to Petra, and said, "Tons of stuff happens here that shouldn't be possible. Seriously. Vampires. Werewolves. Pinkie. Guys who make it rain in the Common Room and not in a gross way. They just are all "ahaaa, now you are drowning!"" Boy, would she have liked to know that before she met Percy. "C'mon now, admit it: teacup dragons. ~Awes-some!~"

"Teacup dragons: not real," Petra argued.

Although if they were real they would be totally awesome.

"Petra, I feel you are sadly constrained by reality." Sad. So sad. But! Not something that would last. "...and for someone from a world where a guy is named Ser Peacock Momo B. Chacha, that is an accomplishment. Republic of Chacha. Did they do dance numbers at the senate there?"

"...he used to dance out his protests against US sanctions on his desk at the UN. To Elvis Presley songs," Petra said. "Is that the kind of thing you mean?"

"Why don't I live in your world?" Kenzi lamented. "Your news is way funnier than ours!"

"The Corporation is sort of the opposite of funny," Petra told her.

Although the first time that commercial for Maxi-Pad Pets with the tagline, "It's like a special friend in your pants!" had come on, Petra and her parents had laughed themselves sick.

Kenzi tried to remember who they were, and said, "The Corporation of what? What do they make?"

"...The Corporation? They make, like. All of the things."

Kenzi blinked. And blinked again. "That's gotta be against some law. I don't know whether to admire it or figure out how to st-- invest to the best of my ability. If I were in your world, of course."

"You know, they make Bipolar Bears and Maxi-Pad Pets and Lady 'Stache Off and...all that stuff," Petra said. "And shows like Patriot Daughters."

Gape. Patriot Daughters could be anything, but. "MAXI-PAD PETS?"

"They come in animal shapes," Petra told her. "You know. 'They're like a special friend in your pants'?" She didn't think much of them either, but she wished she had to deal with them instead of...what she had to deal with.

Hang on. Kenzi just fell off the picnic table laughing. Give her a minute.

Or, you know. Five.

"Yeah," Petra agreed. "That was kind of my reaction, too, the first time I saw a commercial."

"Do the commercial! Do the commercial!"

Seriously, this had to at least partly convince Petra that Kenzi had never seen it.

"I'm not here for your amusement," Petra said, but. The commercial was pretty funny. "Okay, there was something with...this girl's freaking out and the other girls are like, "Oh she must not have Maxi-Pad Pets, because they make your period fun"? And then she's all, "All I have are wings! Wings!"" Petra remembered that part, because it was hilarious.

"But you *are* amusing," Kenzi told her.

Then cracked up again, although at slightly less length, gasping herself back to, "Are they on crack, this Corporation of yours? For real?"

"And then it's all--" Petra was kind of giggling at the memory now, "'I'm a playful platypus!' 'I'm a cuddly teddy bear!' And, I'm not making this up, 'Guess who's got a tiger in her trousers?'

"So, yes, they kind of are on crack."

"Aahahahahahah tiger in her trousers oh god that hurts, heeeee..."

Kenzi finally stopped giggling and managed to get herself back under control, shaking her head and hugging her ribs. "So, so, so dirty." She waggled her eyebrows. "'Hey, guys. You know you want to date the girl who has a tiger in her pants all the time."

"Just during that time of the month," Petra joked. Maybe half-joked. If you had anything besides the expected in your pants most of the time, good luck getting a date. Most guys sucked like that. Unlike Sinjin. Sinjin was awesome. And hot. And now she was distracting herself.

"Euuugh." Kenzi snickered, and hoisted herself back to her feet by her grip on the picnic table. "Okay, I think I'm glad we don't have a 'corporation' here, as hilarious as those commercials sound. You *have* to get me copies, though."

"Excuse me, I don't have to do anything for you," Petra informed her. "You can find them online just like everybody else."

"Hmmm. Well, now that *you're* here..." She'd have to get someone at the library to help her, probably. Kenzi grinned though. Spine of steel to Petra; but she'd still wind up finding out how far off she was in what was 'real'. "Anywho. I'm in 202, if you change your mind about the Gremlin Spray." Her smirk widened. "I won't even say 'told you so.'"
