Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Once people got through their introductions and initial brain breaking, some of them would surely want to sit down. Luckily, there were plenty of tables and chairs set up across the lawn, some in the shade, some out in the open, some close to the buffet, and some in as much of a shadowy corner as one could get in an outdoor space with no actual walls. It was all part of the Fandom experience, really.

"Well, there are plenty out in the woods." She thought. Not that she'd had a chance to see any of them up close.

She smiled softly at Lucrezia. "But thank you for the offer. It's very thoughtful." It sounded like maybe it was the kind of thing a friend would offer!

"I could ask Cesare for advice on trapping doves," she offered.

Lucrezia returned the smile, already quite fond of the girl with the beautiful hair.

"We weren't properly introduced," she said. "Lucrezia Borgia, at your service."

"Oh! That would be lovely." Even if she didn't plan on being here long enough for it to be truly needed.

Also. "What a pretty name." Rapunzel smiled. "Lucrezia Borgia." She repeated it just to hear it again. It was pretty.

"And I'm Rapunzel."

It flowed nicely off the tongue, even if history had made some dark marks on the persona behind it.

"I don't believe I have ever heard that name before," Lucrezia said. "Rapunzel. It is quite lovely, as well. What does it mean?"

Rapunzel's lips pursed slightly.

"I... don't know. Maybe it doesn't mean anything?" Her eyes widened. "Does that mean that your name means something?" That was really neat!

"It means 'succeed,'" Lucrezia said brightly. "I suppose most parents choose names for someone in their family, or something they feel sounds pretty."

"Oh." Rapunzel smiled. "And is it true?" She had a feeling that it might be. Lucrezia just seemed to... have things together. Or something like that.

Lucrezia considered that, taking a sip from her glass of whatever this liquid was. Someone had called it punch. It certainly wasn't wine.

"I would have preferred something else," she said, finally. "I should like to succeed, one day. But I would like for my family to be well, and I should like to protect myself and survive Rome. What is it that you most desire?"

"I--"

Rapunzel frowned in sudden thought. "I don't know? I would have said see the world outside, but here I am." So that couldn't be it anymore, could it?

Lucrezia considered the other girl before reaching to place a hand on hers.

"Perhaps, dear heart, it is as Cesare said to me," she said calmly. "He said I should travel here so that I could be who I wanted to be. Lucrezia, and not a pawn in the Borgia games. Perhaps you have only done the same. Come here to be Rapunzel."

"But I know who I am!" Rapunzel objected. "I'm... me!"

Okay, so maybe she wasn't entirely sure who that was yet, but still! It didn't sound the same a tall, really.

"Of course you do," Lucrezia said firmly. "But here you can live it. There is a difference."

"I don't know," Rapunzel said hesitantly. It almost felt like agreeing with Lucrezia would be a betrayal of mother. She wasn't sure how, but somehow. That was how it felt.

Something was disturbing her new friend, but Lucrezia couldn't discern what. Better to drop the matter entirely than to prolong whatever pain she was causing.

"Then forget that I said it," she said, simply. "You are here because you would like to be, and that is all the reason anyone needs."

Rapunzel relaxed at Lucrezia's obvious willingness to drop the subject. She smiled her gratitude, hoping the other girl could see how heartfelt it was.

"I was right," Rapunzel said softly. "You really are a very nice person."

She really was. She hadn't even poisoned anybody yet.

"Tell me," she said. "To which room have you been assigned? I should not like for you to be a stranger."

"Oh." That was a really good idea!

Rapunzel grinned. "Mine has a really funny sounding name. Fourtwentyfive."

"What about yours?"
