Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Once people got through their introductions and initial brain breaking, some of them would surely want to sit down. Luckily, there were plenty of tables and chairs set up across the lawn, some in the shade, some out in the open, some close to the buffet, and some in as much of a shadowy corner as one could get in an outdoor space with no actual walls. It was all part of the Fandom experience, really.

"No," Ender said, glancing his way with an amused look on his face. "Whimsical is something you can get used to, generally. It's specific in its way."

"Like the gremlins," Tony suggested.

"Like the gremlins," Ender agreed, "But those tend to be more attracted to Ben."

"I threatened to ship them to him, you know." It didn't work, but still. "He seemed to think they'd go after you instead."

Ender tilted his head and shot Tony an amused smile. "It's not news that Ben is delusional."

"True." He glanced around. "Speaking of which, did he survive the rest of the stay with you?"

"I haven't murdered him in my sleep, and I don't think he's drowned himself," Ender said, sounding amused. "He's running around here. Somewhere."

"Which is good, because he's less replaceable than the fish version of him."

Really.

"But only by a little," Ender replied. "Let's not grow his head too big."

"Of course not," Tony agreed. "Then he wouldn't be able to fit through doors."

"And that would be terrible," Ender said, with a laugh. "So how are you, Tony?"

"I've made it through almost an entire year of school so far. I think it's going well." Other than that grey thing. "Hey, do you know anything about cars?"

Ender blinked. "Nothing much besides the technobabble from Ben's movies," he said. "Why?"

"Ben and I were planning to help Warren's car be less terrifying." Eighty miles an hour, Ender. Ugh.

"Is it that bad?" Ender asked, sensibly. He was probably going to invite himself along anyway, just to avoid catastrophe.

"It's a mini-van." That said it all.

"What are you planning to do to it?"

"Reinforce it a little. Maybe fix the engine." And all of it. "You up for helping?"

"It's a car that's modern for this age, right?" Ender checked. "Because I might be able to help you with the software, but you and Ben have me beat on the hardware."

"He could probably use a good GPS system." And all the other things humanly possible in a car. "Ben wants a microwave, but if Karla is going to be in that car..."

"No cooking implements," Ender said. "None. Or fish, for that matter. We don't want to do that to Warren."

"Maybe just a mini-fridge?" Tony suggested. For the parties in that mini-van. In space.

"Cupholders," Ender said, firmly, "And no more."

"How can you go wrong with a mini-fridge?" At least he didn't suggest a bar.

"There's still food in it, which is dangerous near Karla," Ender pointed out. "Nevermind the drain on the electrical system."
