Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Some parts of the East Coast might have been freaking out about a hurricane, but there was no such madness going on in Fandom. Sure, it was a little hot out, with the sun shining and not much breeze happening, but all the milk and toilet paper on the island was safe, and that was important, right? Besides, once the new folks started learning about their new home, there'd be more than enough freaking out to go around.

The usual main attraction had been set up first: a large buffet of food and drinks had been laid out next to all the information the new arrivals would need, and then the blue and gold tables and chairs had been arranged across the rest of the lawn. Everything was just about done when the shuttle arrived, and it was time for a picnic once again.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Well something has them rattled," Jamie said with a shrug. "Even Zoe seemed a little short with me earlier."

I WONDER WHY?

"New kids, new teachers..." Bo took a look around the side of that usefully-placed tree, since she didn't recognize the voice. That told her nothing, granted, except that she didn't recognize the face either. Which meant new teacher -- except he already knew Zoe. Hmm. "Old kids coming back as new teachers?"

Jamie pursed his lips in thought at the last suggestion.

"Nah. Everyone's happy to see me," he lied. "I'm Jamie Madrox by the way. New teacher."

Ahahaha. "The guy I'm not supposed to punch because it'll just make more of you?" As opposed to any other reasons she wasn't supposed to punch a new teacher. "You obviously haven't seen Anakin Skywalker yet, then."

"Oh he puts on a good show," Jamie said with a dismissive wave. "But deep down he really missed me. And yeah, I'm the multiplying guy. Me and kinetic energy? Bros."

"Okay, I have to know. Why did you send him a puppet and a jar of mustard? 'Because he's insane' is not a good enough answer."

"Well the puppet was just to let him know it was me," Jamie said with a chuckle. "The mustard was Grey Poupon. So before I came to the picnic I picked up a sandwich. When I saw Anakin I asked him if he had any Grey Poupon."

"Which is much funnier if you've ever seen the commercials."

"I've seen the commercials." She was about to say Who hasn't, then considered the island's population, and didn't. "I admire your dedication to setting up a punchline."

"Thanks," Jamie said with an impish grin. "I won't even tell you how hard it was to find a jar of Grey Poupon in the middle of a desert surrounded by ninjas."

"I have a feeling you're setting me up for another punchline, but why were there ninjas in the desert?"

"Because that's where they live," Jamie answered honestly. "It's one of those whole other world things. The Jamie I was duped from has a ninja girlfriend and shacked up with her after graduation. And started a branch of Turtle and Canary there."

He gave Bo another grin.

"Only someplace like Fandom could make that happen."

There was a thing with an open mouth and a tilt of her head that Bo did for a second, but it didn't result in an immediate reply, because she couldn't trust what came out of her mouth not to sound stupid. Whatever it might be.

Finally she went with, "I kind of really want to punch you just to prove the duplicate thing is true. Which, judging from the way Anakin talks about you, might be the nicest reason anybody on this island has ever wanted to punch you."

Jamie chuckled at that. "I do have a reputation don't I? No need to punch me."

He took his hand and starting knocking it against the tree, as if it was a door.

With each knock a dupe appeared.

"Why doesn't anyone like me?!" the first dupe wailed.

The second dupe was giving Bo the once over. "How you doin'?" he asked in a scuzzy way.

The last dupe just rolled his eyes and glared at Jamie. "Show off."

Jamie shrugged and looked over at Bo. "My dupes tend to have a mind of their own."

Then he quickly absorbed all three.

"That was kind of... awesome." To the point where Bo could hear herself saying it with Kenzi's voice, which wasn't worrying at all. "Though you sure you couldn't spit out that middle guy again just so I could punch him for the fun of it?"

"Oh, then you'd just have more scuzzy versions of me," Jamie said shaking his head. Then nodded at her shirt.

"So is that just a t-shirt or did something happen to the mountie?"

"He's still on the island," Bo answered after sadly deciding he was right about the punching. "Just retired from the security gig, and I kind of fell into it by accident." Right, she'd never introduced herself; she could blame that on the obvious flustering of meeting someone famous right? "I'm Bo."

"Aww. He retired?" Jamie said with a pout. "I was looking forward to mountie shenanigans."

...

"He didn't mention the time I superglued him to his office, did he?"

"No." Largely because Bo hadn't met him yet, aside from via old security footage. "But I'm starting to see why they gave your picture such a position of honor in the teachers' lounge."

"Really? I can't wait to see it," Jamie said with a grin. "I'm assuming it's a gold frame with a shrine of flowers under it?"

Judging from Jamie's demeanor it's very clear that he knows that it's on the dartboard.

"So how'd you get the security gig? Are you Canadian? Do you get to wear the hat?"

"I wrassled a vampire and won." Totally true. Fine, the vampire was a teenage girl, but still vampire. "There's a hat? I didn't get a hat. Sunglasses, but no hat."

"Oh, you got to have a hat," Jamie replied. "And wrestling a vampire doesn't sound too bad. I don't think you can swing a dead cat around here without hitting one."

"Depends on the vampire." In more ways than one, but Bo let that one drop as a straight-line, no obvious entendre attached. "This one was scrappy."

"Scrappy? Was this a vampire or a small dog?"

"It was...a kind of skinny teenager?" Anakin hadn't been lying about the insanity.

"Ugh. Those are the worst," Jamie said with an eyeroll. "It didn't emo all over you when it lost did it?"
