Rinoa was subdued at the library today. She was going to occupy herself with shelving titles, and hoping no one asked about the white satin gloves she was wearing.

If anyone asked, she was going to claim they matched her outfit. They did. Because she had picked an outfit especially to match satin white gloves.

She wasn't gray any more; most of the physical changes had slowly disappeared. So maybe in a day or two, her fingernails would stop looking so much like talons.

Maybe.

Seifer showed up to the library, dragging a large (and we do mean large, like 3 and 1/2 feet tall) stuffed souvenir, that resembled a rather famous bouncing cat-like creature from those honey bear cartoons. He dropped this souvenir on top of the desk and grinned at Rinoa.

"Brought you something."

Rinoa stared at the large, oversized stuffed animal and burst out laughing.

"For me?!" she squeaked, reaching across the desk to pull him into a bear hug. "You shouldn't have."

"She's right, you shouldn't have," Squall grumbled, from his post nearby.

Seifer looked over and smirked. "That's why it's a gift. Because I wanted too."

He looked back at Rinoa and shrugged. "You should see where we've landed. The rides are pretty cool. And you'll love the shops."

Squall stepped forward, not wanting Seifer to get the upper hand here. "An amusement park. Right. We should go. On a date."

Seifer eyed the other teen. "I don't know, man. You're not really my type. I like 'em a little more built up top."

"Not you," Squall growled. "I was talking to Rinoa."

Seifer made like he was wiping a tear away. "See, now I'm just heartbroken."

"Because I don't want to date you?" Squall asked with a smirk. "I had no idea you were so delicate."

Wow. Seifer wasn't completely sure, but Squall may have just made a joke. He was going to have to check the weather forecast on Hell.

"Someone didn't pay attention in psych class. Don't you know the brash and rude exterior just hides the fluffy and cuddily insides?"

"That's a generalization," Squall pointed out. "It doesn't apply to every specific instance. Your insides, for example, aren't fluffy OR cuddly."

"How do you know? The freak doctor could have replaced my normally squishy insides with fluff and cotton!"

"He wouldn't," Rinoa laughed, making it a point not to step out of Seifer's arms. Squall could deal. "He's allergic to fun. But that sounds wonderful. Someone said there was a dancing mouse and it's the happiest place on this planet?"

Hey, Seifer wasn't going to complain about a hot girl in his arms. "Oh, I'd agree with the happy part. Tons of pretty girls looking for some hot, charming guy to break up the tedium of family vacations. In fact, I'm meeting twins for some fun tomorrow."

Because he was like that.

"And you should definitely take the Ice Princess up on that date. He needs socialization, sweetheart. Otherwise he's going to end up biting the postman and pissing on other peoples' shoes."

"You're terrible," Rinoa sighed. "Twins? Really?"

She was never sure what that odd twinge was. Jealousy? Disappointment? She felt like Seifer could do better than just ... alleycatting around. Okay, and maybe a bit of jealousy. Shut up.

"I think maybe Squall wasn't hugged enough as a child," she said solemnly. "It'd explain a lot."

"Maybe it was all that standing in the rain. Water on the brain."

It's a very good thing Seifer didn't know about that 'bit of jealousy'. He'd probably freak out at this point.

"And yes, really. I have who knows how long to enjoy the fun and delights of the Magic Kingdom, and I'm going to abuse it to the fullest." And then some.

"That just makes him sound sad and tragic," Rinoa explained. "Draws the girls in like flies. Shame he pushes them away again. There's a kingdom of magic?"

"Yep. With dancing mice and singing rodents."

"And ... this is a good thing?" Rinoa asked, pulling back enough to get a good look at his face. Maybe he was kidding?

Well. The stuffed cat thing was cute. This place couldn't be all bad.

"I guess, if nothing else, it'll annoy Squall," she said.

Look. She might be his girlfriend and all, but annoying Squall happened to be a really fun time.

He really wasn't kidding, in fact he might look kind of wistful about it. "Hey, it's pretty cool. Lots of rides to go on, you'll love the shopping. Different food places... it's actually a lot of fun."

Remember, lack of real childhood here.

"Okay," she said. "Then I have to go."

Her own childhood had been shortened by her mother's death, but she at least had the vibrant memories of a loving, happy family from before.

She flashed him a quick smile. "If you're enjoying yourself by flirting with twins, then go flirt with all the twins in town," she said.

Really. Anything that cheered him up. He'd had a rough year.

They all had.

Seifer just raised an eyebrow and chuckled, because the flirting had been done. "I promise not to get kicked out of the amusement park by a giant mouse. Or one of those princesses."

He might have forgotten to mention them. "Which are totally fake, by the way. You are so much cooler than them."
