Science Classroom; Tuesday [ 08/02 ].

So there it was. A large chunk of rock sitting in the middle of a laboratory classroom, waiting to be researched. Jane wasn’t entirely sure it wanted to be researched, though, with all the elusiveness and mystery it was giving off, but, then again, geology was hardly her area of scientific expertise, and she had a feeling it wasn’t quite Miss Granger’s forte either.

Thankfully, that was why they had their brilliant and inquisitive students to help, yes?

Goodness, she hoped so! Either way, a handwavey message had been sent out to the student body, encouraging anyone who was interested to come on in and help them out today.

“Hello, students,” she gave them a bit of an uncertain smile. “Thank you all for coming and giving us a hand with this most mysterious piece of rock. It’s so good to see so many of you eager to help, but Miss Granger and myself must ask you to take the utmost care. Clearly, we are uncertain what we are dealing with, so we must be careful.”

"Yes, please. I wish we had more information to give you," said Hermione, and don't think that wasn't bothering her. Of course, she'd also decided that if there was some strange mysterious rock that no one knew anything about, she was not going to be touching it unless it was absolutely necessary. At least without gloves. She knew that was probably just paranoia. "If there is anything you can tell us about it, don't hesitate to speak up."

“We’ve got gloves, microscopes, goggles, you name it,” Jane offered, “and also plenty of books for reference. Let’s use our resources and try to figure out what we can. Consider everything; even if you find something that’s just minutely interesting or different or strange, it could be useful.”

"Now, if anyone has any questions, we'll answer them as best we can," Hermione went on. "But let's get started and see what we can find, shall we?"

Topher was practically bouncing when he arrived at the science classroom. He got to play with a big rock! People would be jealous; they didn't have a rock this big. Take that, Dave.

He had toys tools with him and he was ready to get to work playing with it. Uh. Doing science on it. That was what he meant.

That was so rude! Just for that, Topher was going to... to... to mail him explosives! Well, probably not.

...He'd save those for Ramona and Kate as revenge for the two bruises on his face.

"Probably it's just part of wherever the island landed this time," he said, shrugging. "Which may be another planet or something."

"That suddenly appeared in the middle of our campground?" Tony asked, peering over at the oddly coloured stone.

He couldn't even put his finger on why the colour seemed wrong.

"Yeah, no, you're right," he decided, and squinted at the thing. "Does it seem like a... kind of a wrong color to you?"

"Gives me a headache," Tony replied with a frown. Though that could have been due to brain twins.

He shook his head, trying to clear the strangeness. "Okay, tests to run. Even if it's in a classroom."

HE DEMANDED ACCESS TO HIGH TECH LABS, DAMN IT.

"First we have to weigh it," Topher decided. "So that if it decays, we'll know it's something nuclear."

Already, he was snapping on a pair of gloves and crossing over to the scale.

Scully put her glasses on, then raised her eyebrows. "The person who objected on ethical grounds." Just 'cause she's not a pony now doesn't mean she won't stomp on you if you inject someone, Topher.

Oh, now you've done it, Topher. Scully glare at 100 degrees headed toward you. "Your own egocentric view of yourself as someone who matters aside, how do you possibly justify unwilling participation?"

Careful, Topher. She's got a scalpel.

For your information, Scully, he would have an ethical crisis over unwilling participation later down the road. Just... it'd be about a decade until then, that was all.

"I will tie you up and make you watch us do experiments without you if you try it here," Scully told him, sounding ultra-ultra-grim. Future ethical dilemmas were all well and good, but if she wasn't allowed to arrest him, she'd torture him that way.

Topher really didn't need a third girl hating him this week. Really. The bruised nose (thanks, Kate!) and black eye (and thank you, Ramona!) were more than enough.

"Uh-huh," he squeaked, backing up just slightly. "Okay."

"Okay," Scully said, very glad he didn't make any teenage-boy comments she'd have to hit him for. "Just so we're clear." She paused, then in a conciliatory tone, "What's your specialization?"
