The Magic of a Good Time, Wednesday, Period 1

The classroom looked oddly barren this week when the students entered. Pinkie wasn't in hiding this time -- so odds were against any costumed performances -- but was sitting at her desk, her front hooves propped up against the desktop as she watched everyone enter.

There was the usual table with tea and punch and breakfasty snacks on hand, but other than that . . . it looked like a normal classroom.

"Hi!" Pinkie said, once it seemed everyone had arrived. "Welcome back again! I'm so glad to see you all! Did any of you get to go to Kenzi's wild squirrel party this week? It was tons of fun, and out in the park where anyone could come by, which was super nice of her! Parties in public places can mean you get to skimp on the invitations a bit, but don't forget about that extra personal touch when you want to make a party really magical." She threw her front hooves in the air in an excited V, then hopped up and trotted around to the front of the desk.

"Of course, if there's no invitations, why, how do you know it's a party going on? Well, the first hint is all the people having fun, of course, but what about before the first guests arrive? Nothing says 'PARTY!' like the right kind of decorations. Your decorations can let your guests know where the party is, what the theme is, who the party's for, or just give them something neat to look at and play with! And decorations can be anything that makes the party space special. You could have streamers and pretty lanterns and fancy table cloths and even fountains and sculptures! But my personal favorite decorations are the BALLOONS!"

Which, naturally, was the cue for dozens of multi-colored balloons to drop from the ceiling, along with loads of confetti. Pinkie pranced and danced happily through the falling balloons, nodding and encouraging the students to join her as she batted them around with her nose and her tail.

"So today we're going to decorate!" She reached the end of the room and threw open a closet, from which piles of supplies came tumbling out. "We have streamers and lanterns and table clothes and fountains and sculptures and confetti and hats and monkeys and paper trees and flowers and centerpieces and cup holders and ducks and curtains and BALLOONS!" Pinkie dragged a helium tank out of the closet with her teeth, only to accidentally inflate herself to the point of floating up into the air. When she let go, she flew around the room like a deflating balloon to land, giggling, on top of her desk. "So grab some supplies and get decorating!" she said, her voice somehow even higher than usual. "And don't forget to have fun!"

Jeremy... was really concentrating on the snacks for most of the lecture until the balloons.

What, he'd missed breakfast again. Coming back from being animal-shaped was disorienting!

Decorating was, again, not something Bod was particularly knowledgeable in but he figured that you couldn't really go wrong as long as you tried. The colors and actual decorations would take care of the rest.

Though, Bod hoped he didn't become a human balloon like Pinkie Pie had.

Watch, just watch, as Butters went from being excited...to very excited...to super excited...to super-duper excited the more Miss Pie talked and he realized that they were going to be doing even more fun stuff in this class and he got to help decorate not just a 5x5 invitation, but a whole room!

This class was like a dream he just didn't want to end.

"I feel like I'm trapped in a Chucky Cheese," Jack muttered to himself as he swatted a balloon out of his face. "Without the dancing rodents."

"We could always get some dancing rodents," Kenzi offered, thoughtfully. "For a big bottle of Pyrat Rum, I'm guessing."

She inhaled helium, then squeaked, "And get whatever else is at Chuck E. Cheese!"

Re: During the lecture (7/20)

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-07-20 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay... That's just a bit disturbing," Jack said. "It's weird enough that squirrels write down the news. I don't need to see dancing rats drunk on rum."

Re: During the lecture (7/20)

[identity profile] regretiz4suckas.livejournal.com 2011-07-20 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"My pals!" Kenzi squeaked, sounding rodent-like herself. The helium started to wear off. "I've seen it... Well, not the dancing. I wonder if they'd rhumba?" She did small shimmy-step. "Dancing gremlins? More or less disturbing?"

Re: During the lecture (7/20)

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-07-20 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wait. Did you say gremlins?" Jack asked with a raise of both eyebrows. "Seroiusly?"

Re: During the lecture (7/20)

[identity profile] regretiz4suckas.livejournal.com 2011-07-20 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"What, have you seen them?" Kenzi looked hopeful. "Would they look cute in little knitted hats? Or are they too badass for that?"

Re: During the lecture (7/20)

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, hold on, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole mythical little monster thing," Jack said shaking his head. "You're pulling my leg, aren't you?"

Re: During the lecture (7/20)

[identity profile] regretiz4suckas.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Kenzi started to grin, evilly. For all she knew the gremlins like the cake were a lie, but-- "Of course they are," she said in syrupy tones. "I'm just messing with you. There's no such thing as gremlins!"

Then she gave a paranoid look around the classroom.

Jack was really giving Kenzi a wary look, now.

"Are yoooooooooou on any medication?" he asked slowly and carefully.

[identity profile] regretiz4suckas.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah!" Kenzi's eyes widened. "...no?" Maybe? Or maybe she just should be? Could you treat klepto tendencies that way?

[identity profile] exactlyaverage.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Jack's hands immediately went to his wallet and keys.

"Maybe you should look into it?" Jack suggested helpfully.

Thanks for showing her where those are, Jack!... although you've also shown you're smart enough to keep your hands on them when she's around, damnit.

"Any ideas where? Are the doctors here cute?"

Oh wow, that confetti was never coming out of Caroline's hair. Pinkie was so lucky it was pretty and really surprisingly festive of she'd have a whining vampire on her hands. At least it wasn't tons of glitter.

Jim had no idea what exactly a monkey even was.

... But they were cute, and he kind of wanted one, now. Too bad he wouldn't have any luck with that at the pet store in town.

Bruce was actually pretty amazed at the inflating and flying around the room. Magical ponies could defy even basic rules of physics, apparently.

Bod picked up some of the streamers and started decorating with those before anything else. He got a little tangled up in them and ended up wrapping the streamers around himself once before getting them on the wall in some semblance of neatness.

"Hmmmmmm...." Butters...or was that Interior Designer Butters?...narrowed his eyes thoughtfully as he stroked his chin and took a look around the room. Then he pulled out a sketchpad from his backpack and started to scribble down a few decorating notes, comparing color swatches and measuring balloon widths and lift before finally stepping up and getting to work with some streamers.

"Dude, so did your fryer recover yet?" Kenzi asked in helium-voice, sitting on a desk and watching Butters get really creative. Inhale. "What are you going for here?"

Re: DECORATE! (7/20)

[identity profile] richieryan.livejournal.com 2011-07-20 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Richie started with some of the ducks, mostly because they were kind of a weird choice for party decorations. Or so he thought. Maybe for 4 year olds or something. But he was still going to start strategically placing ducks around the room. It seemed like a good plan.

Juliet grabbed piles of everything red and started putting together the bling-iest tablescape she could imagine. The more confetti and balloons and streamers on it, the better.

Re: DECORATE! (7/20)

[identity profile] answer2bheard.livejournal.com 2011-07-20 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim knew confetti when he saw it, and streamers were fairly straightforward. But the helium? The helium was intriguing. It took him about two whole seconds to make a beeline in that direction, experimenting with balloons.

Only one had to explode in his face before he learned that there was such a thing as 'way too full!'
