Creative Writing; Tuesday, First Period [ 07/05 ].

The shifting of his class to an earlier period might have bothered Shunsui, but, thankfully, the benefit of being someone who spent most of his time napping, the morning wasn't really that irksome. Besides, it made the coffee he happily doled out to students all the more applicable...and perhaps inspiring.

All of the desks in the classroom had been moved aside, replaced with nice comfortable seating cushions, and Shunsui beckoned the students to come, gather, have a seat, and get comfortable. Shunsui himself settled amidst the students in the circle, as well, gracefully lowering himself despite the very loaded drink carriers in each of his hands. They were to-go cups from the Perk, and not a drop of them spilled as he sat, and then he started passing them around, one to his left, one to his right.

"Ah, welcome, my new little batch of ducklings ♥! Please, take a drink ♥. Some are coffee, some are cocoa, choose whichever you like, but we are all here to be writers and writers, if they're not smoking or getting drunk, will drink coffee ♥. So help yourself, and we will get started, as I don't think the school would much approve if I encouraged you to drink or smoke ♥."

"My name is Captain Shunsui Kyōraku and I am here to help guide you through the wonderful journey of cultivating a furtive imagination and wrangling it down with words to delight and entertain ♥! Some of you may know me as the owner of our fair general store in town, Turtle & Canary, but not many of you may know that I am an accomplished author as well ♥...I have two very well-known," --well-known for their terribleness, anyway-- "novels under my sash and a bestselling autobiography ♥! I believe that life is poetry in motion and that there is a story in everything and there are few journeys as great as the one that brings us through the doorway of the written word ♥. We will cover a different element of writing every week, and then pursue a writing activity based on that theme ♥. This includes today, so I hope you all brought something to write with, but, if not, I have brought along some notebooks and pens to use ♥.

"Today's lesson will not only give us a chance to get to know each other, but it will also teach us one of the key elements of effective writing ♥. Perhaps some of you have heard of the game Two Truths and a Lie ♥? Typically, this is an ice-breaking exercise in which a person introduces themselves with three little tidbits of information, two of which are true, and one of which is a lie ♥. The others then try to guess which one is the falsehood ♥. This is an excellent tool for fiction: all fiction, after all, is improved when it's inspired by truth; it is most effective if it's grounded in some sort of reality, but, since we are creators, a little lying, a little elaboration on the truth or a bit of creativity, is always a nice touch ♥. They say you should write what you know, but just think of how interesting it would be if you threw in something you didn't ♥ In a sense, a good story is made up of 'two truths and a lie' ♥.

"So that is what we will do today, only, instead of just saying two truths and a lie about yourself, I would like you little goslings to compose it as a story ♥. There is no limit to how many truths you can put in about yourself, but there must only be one lie, and the others will try to guess which is the lie ♥. Here is an example:

"The day had been beautiful and warm, with sunshine warming the faces and loins of nearly anyone with a pulse. Captain Kyōraku of the Eighth Division had taken a wonderful, invigorating stroll through the park, conversed with several young women out tanning in the sun, and had a pleasant nap under a blooming poplar tree. It was starting to get late, though, as the sun took her final bow before burrowing under the blanket of the horizon, yet he had the whole evening stretching out before him.

"What shall I do?" he asked himself, considering the options. A drink would be quite nice at this juncture, especially his favourite, a nice hot sake, and so he began to traipse over to one of the fine drinking establishments in the lovely island town where he was taking his holiday. He loved the drinks there with a great passion, though he often felt that perhaps the staff behind the bar, especially of the female variety, weren't very attractive or interesting at all.

Captain Kyōraku fluttered in with a smile and found his favourite seat and before he could say his order, there it was, a beautiful jug of sake, waiting to be enjoyed.'
"

"Anyone who knows much about me should know that I actually quite enjoy our bar staff here on the island; as a matter of fact they are some of the most interesting and beautiful women I've met yet ♥. So, clearly, the observation that I found them boring was the lie ♥. But I am a Captain of the the Eighth Division, I love sake, and I love sunny days and napping under beautiful trees ♥. Not to mention conversation with lovely sunbathing women ♥."

Shunsui turned a welcoming smile toward his students. "Are there any questions ♥? If not, I will let you get to work ♥. Enjoy your coffee, your cocoa, and take some time to compose a little story about yourself that involves two truths and lie ♥. Feel free to chat with each other as you work and, toward the end of the class, we'll then share our stories ♥. But remember, your classmates have to guess which is true and which is false, so don't reveal too much as you talk ♥. And if anyone needs a notebook or pen, just let me know ♥."

Chloe believed that coffee was truly a wonderful thing.

Blue sparkle pens on pink Hello Kitty paper. Truly, Prof. Shunsui expected the Great American Novel here.

Agent Reynard had again landed in jail because he wouldn't listen to his partner, the brilliant Agent Diana Lasky, who was now considering whether to bail out her errant partner, or pop a cold one and put an extra quarter in the Magic Fingers bed.

It would serve him right if he got left in a cell, after he ate her pizza. Then again, it did save her from a vampire when he did.

Scully was wondering if this counted as 'creative commons' when the names were Jose Chung's, but she was the actual character in question.

Scully gave him a rueful smile, and shook her head. "He didn't end up in jail that time. Although he should have, and did other times for not listening." Or at least very unpleasant 'protective custody' then three days of his memory missing. The doof. "I mixed things together that happened at different times. And maybe a tiny bit of exaggeration."

She should have had that beer, yes.

Scully smirked. "Actually, it was drugged. The 'vampire' wasn't very good at, hmm, hunting his prey. I'd ordered the pizza, he delivered it, but my friend found another task for me and stayed and ate it instead." Which still made her grumble. "So when the vampire came back, hoping to find me asleep, he found my much bigger partner just dopey and rather stupid. And then screaming like a toddler when the vampire attacked."

"And taking your friends' food!" She'd only had one bagel that day, with cream cheese that wasn't even real cream cheese and Mulder knew that and still ate her dinner!

He was lucky she'd shot at the vampire, and not him.

"I think Agent Lasky should leave him in the jail cell until tomorrow."

"Well. Reynard is more useful to her out of jail, than in it." Scully gave him a crooked smile. "And he can buy her dinner."

I now have a confusion. :D Is this class supposed to be on Thursdays or did you just type Thursday into the header on accident over being giddy for a day off? :D
