Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"I meant here," Kenzi cleared up. But if he didn't mention any here, that meant here was... okay. "Street politics blow, but I had connections. Cousins, their friends, you know. Places to go to."

"Oh, here," Toby nodded. "Well, other than this chick who tried to steal my food out from under me..." he teased.

"Ah!" Kenzi put her hands to her chest, looking wounded. And amused. "Now that's just hurtful. And here I was about to offer you cake!"

"Yeah?" Toby raised an eyebrow. "Does this cake have a catch?"

"It might make you see pink ponies," Kenzi said very soberly.

"...I think the pony's real," Toby said, after a moment. There had definitely been some very real rapid-fire inner-monologuing of the OMGSOEXCITEDTOBEHERE variety from her direction, anyway.

"Dude, what?"

"Yeah, I know," Toby said with a nod. "My roommate's afraid she's gonna ask him to go on an adventure."

"...why would she ask him, particularly? Also, she seems way more into parties, and I can't believe I'm having this conversation, it made more sense when I thought the food was doped with joke drugs..."

"Dude, this one time we got lost in Japan and there were singing pop tarts," Toby shuddered. "Stan's life is just weird."

Kenzi was still boggling. The pony was real. The pony was real. Holy shit. She rubbed her face, focusing back in on what Toby was saying, and said, "Back up. I know you did not just say singing pop tarts, 'cause that's-- really?" Was he doing the same thing as Sam, and seeing what she'd fall for? Kenzi gave him a don't lie to me, dude, I will find someone to mess you up for me look.

"Hand to god, I am not lying," Toby declared. "I am, however, doing the same thing this one girl did to me the first day I came here, and laying out all the really weird shit flat-out. I didn't believe her at first either."

Kenzi leaned reeeeeeally close, eye-to-eye, in order to catch him if he blinked. Also, just to mess with him a little more. "Swear you are not bullshitting me, Toby, on, uh. Your hope of--" Getting lucky. Living. "--winning the lottery."

"I'd need a ticket for that," Toby pointed out. "But I swear."

"Where... the heck... have I landed?" Kenzi marveled, eyes huge and impressed.

"Just off the coast of Atlantis?" Toby decided to go for the smartass answer.

Kenzi snickered and poked his arm, then picked up a cupcake and handed it over. "Riiight. Don't tell me if that's the truth. Save some suspense here."

"I could show you around tomorrow if you'd like?" Toby offered, accepting the cupcake. ~~Assuming the island doesn't up and leave in the middle of the night.~~
