Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"I was afraid you were going to say Justin Beiber for a second, but those artists are good." At least, Taylor Swift was, so he assumed the rest were cool too. "I'm more into...well, I guess you'd call it emo rock but I'm not, like, that kind of guy, really."

"Noooo judging here," Miley promised, putting her hands up in concession. "And hey, say what you want about Justin, but he throws awesome parties."

A beat. Oops.

"...Or so I've heard."

"Do you read gossip blogs and stuff?" Billy asked. "I guess there are worse ways he could spend his money."

"My point exactly," Miley said, clicking a little finger-gun at Billy. Although no, it hadn't been her point at all. Shh.

Okay, best to get the topic far away from her Hannah contacts. It was just a bad idea. "Soooo... tell me something about yourself," she suggested.

"Um, well, I've been here since the beginning of the summer?" he said uncertainly. "And I'm kind of homesick, but it's also been pretty fun here. And I live with a girl. Because the school paired us up, I mean."

"Well, I didn't think you were shacking up with someone," Miley laughed. Then she paused. "Um, not that I don't think you could. Because you could! If you wanted. Which maybe you do. Or don't. I just met you, but I'm sure if you, uh, if you were the kind of person to want to shack up, then..."

Could he please, please just stop her?

"I'm not that kind of person," Billy said, putting his hand up to stop her. "But thank you for thinking I could be. I usually come off as way too nice for that sort of thing."

Miley was totally relieved not to have to keep babbling. Seriously, thank you, Billy.

"Well, I try to keep an open mind," she quipped. You could only mislabel people so many times before that lesson started to sink in.
