Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"I don't know, I think this is the first time we haven't had sunshine at a welcome picnic since we got here."

"Yeah," he nodded. "Guess the island's in a mood." Yeah, Jake would never give up on the notion that the island had moods.

It was one of the few "magic" ideas that Claudia just rolled with.

"Definitely. Do you think it got into a fight with the Isle of Ikea?"

"Oooooooooh," Jake perked up at the notion. "You think they're dating?"

"That, or BFFs. Or both." She titled her head. "Do you think islands have sex?"

Aaaaaaaaand that was a weird mental image.

"Um... I kind of don't want to know," Jake decided. "It's make a lot of noise."

Yes, that was what was wrong with the image.

"Yeah, I think we need a change of subject. Stat."

"What? You don't like island sex?" he snickered and shook his head. "Fine. How's the old man?"

"Old and cranky. He accused me of stealing a Tesla."

She didn't steal it. She just . . . borrowed it. Without asking him first.

He raised an eyebrow at her, something in her tone giving her away. "Did you?"

"You wound me, Jake. Really. Right here." A pause. "Okay, maybe a little. It's going to be really useful around here. He doesn't want me getting hurt!"

"Hey, I'm not arguing that it wouldn't be helpful," Jake laughed, holding up his hands in surrender. "Maybe he would have given it anyway. He's just a big softie inside."

"Yeah, but first you have to chip through the layers of crotchety."

"Well yeah, but it's so worth it," he deadpanned. Not that it lasted long before he was snickering. "No wonder he's not married."

At least, Jake was assuming he wasn't.

"Okay, see, and now I'm picturing Artie with a woman. That's worse than islands having sex."

"Do you want to go back to discussing what's happen if Fandom had a kid with the Isles of Ikea?" he was so nice to offer it.

"They could have a whole archipelago," Claudia decided.

Yes, it was that much better than talking about Artie's love life.

"The world's going to end if they ever start fighting," Jake decided, because that was just scary.

"Maybe they already have. Maybe there's loads of little baby Fandoms and Ikeas running around who refuse to speak to each other."
