Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

Kenzi snorted, then laughed. Biting into her pizza. "Good one. So, what do these mythical gremlins look like? Heh."

"Oh, you'll learn," Sam said. She went for another grab at the cheetos while Kenzi was distracted with being all smug and pizza eating.

"I call bullshit and HEY! Leave my stuff alone! We're not dating!" Kenzi pulled back the plate, but not fast enough to stop the blond from getting some Cheetos. "Klepto."

Pot, fine set of Williams-Sonoma cookware.

"You can call it what you like," Sam said, now cheerfully eating cheetos. "Won't make 'em any less real when they sneak out from under your bed and bite you."

"Lemme guess, you're selling gremlin-repellant? Right." Snort. And bite into the pizza with a vengeance. "You get a lot of new kids to fall for this?"

Sam decided she should totally try to sell gremlin repellent.

"Nope," she said. "Just you. Haven't talked to many new kids, yet."

Hey! Kenzi's idea! Kenzi's profits! Hands off her stuff again, blond pushy girl!

"Lucky, lucky me." Kenzi narrowed her eyes, still in a fairly good mood, then demanded, "Quid pro quo. Worst teacher to piss off here."

"The guy in the red pajamas," Sam decided. "He seems like the sort who would just kind of . . . rant at you. I haven't met any really awful teachers here, yet, though."

She'd only been here two months, after all.

"Hmm. If he's the worst, this place won't be so bad," Kenzi said, nibbling again. "I mean, he's nuts, but. You know, not an asshole." Meaning, he'd probably bust her and rant and crap, but not just 'cause it was Tuesday or some shit. "Doable. Hey, did you know there's a class on cupcakes?"

Kenzi was so there.

"I took it last session. Lots of good food. Don't let the teachers blind you to the wonders of meat-based cupcakes, though. They have a prejudice."

Sam clearly found this very sad.

Kenzi was trying to imagine this, her face full of wonder. "How could that not be awesome? I mean, are we talking bacon cupcakes here, or are we talking kind of liver?"

"Bacon. Ham. Meatloaf. Some fish, which is a little bit weirder, but, no. No liver."

"Then clearly they don't know their own awesome in having that class." Kenzi shook her head, stuffed another bite of pizza into it. And started to check to see if blond chick had a wallet on her anywhere.

She did, in the cargo pocket of her pants. It had a rewards card for Groovy Smoothie in Seattle in it. And nothing else.

"I tried to talk them out of it, but they were really stubborn."

"Miley's in that one. Have to convince her to back me up on this." Hmm. How to get the wallet. Tricky. Too tricky for now, probably. Later, yeah, maybe next time, when she could just bump into this person and grab it. "You're going to like her." Kenzi rolled her eyes a little. Hey, she liked Miley, but of all the naive, gullible, born-to-be-scammed kids she'd met today....

"Yeah? I haven't met too many of you new kids, yet. Which one is she?"

"Brunette girl with all the pink pink luggage, and the charm bracelet," Kenzi said, leaning around, then nodding to her. "Ryan's the other girl. And Bart's the guy. And my roommate, what the freaking hell."

"You should feel lucky. My roommate's a guy and he's named 'Goose'."

"Am I stuck with this kid?" Kenzi whined, disbelieving. "You couldn't ditch your roommie?"

"I haven't really tried yet. I've only been here a couple of months. And what if I got someone even worse? I could end up rooming with Freddie or something."

Well, shit. And Kenzi made a note to avoid this Freddie guy.

"At least Bart's little enough to intimidate," she grumbled. "Pretty sure I could kick the crap out of him if he tries anything." This place was weird. Varied backgrounds, her ass.

"If not, you can let me know. I can kick the crap out of pretty much anybody."

As long as they didn't have superpowers. That was cheating.

SO cheating. Not that Kenzi was above getting people to cheat for her.

She gave blond chick a speculative look, and thought, what the hell. In contradiction to her name-tag, she said, "Kenzi."

That's okay, Sam hadn't bothered to read her name tag, anyway. "Sam. Good to see the new kids aren't all a bunch of nubs."

"Good to see the old kids aren't all a bunch of sticks, either." Kenzi grinned. "You still can't have my Cheetos."
