Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

Miley needed to take a step back for a second. And breathe. Aaaand... breathe again.

"You're a talking horse," was her weak response to that greeting.

A talking pink horse. Oh, BlueJeans was not going to stand for this.

Technically, she was a pony.

"Well, yeah. Why wouldn't I talk?" Everypony here was so silly!

Miley gaped. "Well -- I mean -- I'm sure you're super nice an' all, but why do horses keep talking to me? First BlueJeans, and now you. This is crazy."

"Do ponies usually not talk to you?" How sad! That meant she might not have any friends! "Maybe they think you're just shy."

"...Maybe," Miley agreed weakly. Her eyes were still wide, but she decided to run with it for now.

"My horse BlueJeans kept talking to me a few months ago," she volunteered finally. "Am I going all ~~meta for~~ Dr. Doolittle or something?"

"I don't know. Is ~~meta for~~ Dr. Doolittle a licensed practitioner? Because you shouldn't go see a doctor unless you can trust them."

Not that Equestria had very many fraudulent doctors.

Really? Really?

Okay, she decided to try this again. "Do you... are you able to talk to everyone?" she asked patiently. "Or just some people?"

Pinkie had no idea why this strange pony would think she couldn't talk to everyone. Maybe she thought Pinkie was shy?

"Of course! I even throw parties for the new ponies when they come to Ponyville! That way everypony gets to know everypony else!"

...Riiiight.

"Ooookaaaay," Miley said, visibly freaked. "And... this ponyville. Is that what you call the stables? 'Cause my horse, BlueJeans, is gonna be living in there, and..."

And Pinkie would totally scare him.

Pinkie would feel very bad about scaring another pony. She might even bake him apologetic cupcakes.

"It's what I call my hometown. It's the cutest little town in Equestria, just a carriage ride away from Canterlot."

"Uh-huh." Miley managed a tiny nod.

This was so, so weird.

"And do all the ponies there, uh, talk?"

"Of course, silly! Well, except for Silent Flapper, the pegasus mime. But she's always been kind of an odd filly."

"Got it," said Miley after a long moment. "Oookay." To herself, she mumbled quietly, "Guess I am not in Malibu anymore."

"I think this town's called Fandom!" Pinkie offered. "Did you get lost?"

"...No. I know where I am. Thanks."

Then she flashed an awkward little smile. There, see? Friendly!

That was the spirit! Pinkie grinned broadly back. "Well, it's real nice to meet you! I'm sure we'll be great friends!"

Miley did her very best to keep from laughing, for the record.

"Uh... yeah," she said. "You too."

Pinkie wouldn't have minded if she laughed. She was a fan of laughter in pretty much all its forms.

"Well, I better get going if I'm going to meet everypony here. I'll see you, later!"
