Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"Rain again, yeah." It was really all Jim could do to keep from pouting as he looked out past the tent. "But at least we know your mp3 player can stand up to the elements now, right? So that much isn't so bad."

He gave her a little grin that suggested that he was trying very hard to see the silver lining, here. Flying! He wanted to be showing off out there. So, so much.

Ariel's grin in response let Jim know that she appreciated his efforts. "Exactly. And there's all the new people, too! And, of course," with a significant look toward any plates between the two of them, "the food."

"The food," Jim agreed, practically sighing happily. "You know, the food kind of weirded me out back when I was one of the new kids here. But I think after a few months, it's kind of starting to grow on me. I haven't had to chase down a single one of my meals yet."

No bugs! It was amazing!

"You know," Ariel mused, a thoughtful finger to her chin, "we could change that, if you really wanted to..."

"What, how?"

It was a bad thing that Jim perked up like that. It was. It meant that he thought that whatever Ariel had in mind, it was somehow a good idea. Or even a terrible idea that would be good fun to put into action. Which was worse.

"Are you saying we should go hunting? Or just start eating bugs?"

"We could do both!" Ariel said with a laugh. "Or just chase some. I don't know if I could actually kill any animals to eat them, myself, but it would sure be fun to chase them, especially in something like your board."

"If we were using my board to chase them down with, they probably wouldn't stand a chance," Jim laughed. "I think we could probably even give the birds around here a run for their money, you know?"

And even if they couldn't, it would sure be fun to try.
