Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"I couldn't bring myself to stay away too long," Bruce said, catching Ariel in the hug. "I trust you've been good?"

"Of course!" Ariel gave Bruce a little bit of a squeeze before releasing him lest he lose his breath. Granted, she knew she'd probably have to squeeze pretty hard to crush Bruce's lungs, but that wouldn't keep her from trying if she really wanted to. She settled back with a smirk. "Well. Define good."

"Around here? You're breathing and haven't suffered too much embarrassment over anything," Bruce said.

Because Ariel was so prone to embarrassment.

"In that case," Ariel said after a moment to consider, "yes. I'm doing pretty good. How about you? How was your training?"

"The mountain climbing was fun," Bruce said, very subtly hinting at his cover story. "It was a truly rare experience, and I think I came away from it learning a lot."

"Did you manage to get any pictures for me?" Ariel asked, with a look that settled into her own hint of him not being a disappointment.

"Only a few. I didn't have much time for that, of course," Bruce said.

"Hey," Ariel shrugged with a satisfied smile, "a few was all I asked. I bet it was beautiful out there."

"It was," Bruce said. "But it's good to be back now. It'll be nice to settle back into a more normal routine."
