Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"Didn't see him," Jake frowned. He didn't think he'd smelled any new vampires or werewolves on the island. It could just be another super power kid. "But yeah, pretty much like that. I'm guessing it's not something you're used to?"

"Not at all," Miley told him vigorously. "At home we just, you know, move at the normal speed."

A beat.

"Is this a physics thing? Because I haven't taken that yet."

Jake snorted. "I think it might be a biology thing."

Hey, it wasn't like she had flunked biology! She just... hadn't been so great (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkmHo7t3fy4&playnext=1&list=PL91FE5BFBAA5EA267) at it, either.

"Figuring it out wouldn't have to do with knowing the names of all the bones, would it?" she asked wearily. "'Cause that's all I got."

"Nope," he laughed. "Well, maybe. I dunno. Just knowing what someone is usually helps."

"Nope," he laughed. "It's just semantics. I'm a werewolf, that's a what, no?"

No matter how casual he said it, he still expected people to freak out. Maybe this time it'd work.

She paused.

"Are you kiddin' me?"

"Nope," he said easily, still grinning as he waited to see what'd come next.

"You aren't furry," she finally pointed out.

"Not now," he laughed and shrugged a shoulder. "But I'm faster and stronger than someone normal would be."

Wait, he should probably not have her freak out at a full moon. "And I don't bite people. I change when I want, but I'm in control. So you don't have to worry or anything."

"Uh... huh." Miley just stared. He was so cute, though! How could he be a werewolf?

"So... just assuming for a sec that I believe you, when you are a wolf, do you look normal?"

"If a way too big wolf is considered normal," he said with a laugh. "I think that's a no."

"Definitely a no," Miley laughed.

Okay. So. This was weird, but she could deal. She'd seen tons of werewolf movies! Even gotten all fangirly about one or two of them.

"And do you do that a lot?" she asked. "Or just at the full moon, or...?"

"Pretty regularly," he nodded. "I go a bit hyper if I don't."

She nodded. Well, that made sense.

"Well, hey," she said, shrugging a little. Might as well go along with all this for now, right? "Long as you don't bite me, I am a-okay with that."

"No biting," he held up his hand as he solemnly promised it. "I know it's a lot to take in, but you know, it's kind of best to hear the truth now than have to find out the crazy on your own later.

"Oh, hey, I am totally good with hearing the truth," Miley assured him. "Don't even worry about it. I am so good with hearing the truth, you have no idea."

This was the part where she stalled while she processed things in her head.

He laughed. "Yeah, because I start listening stuff to watch out for and it might make your head spin."

Headspinnyness was definitely not good.

"You know what?" she said, waving a hand. "I can totally catch up with all this extra stuff some other time."

Obvious much?

Then she flashed another charming little smile and added, "But it was really nice meeting you, Jacob. I'll see you around?"

She would have to excuse him if he was assuming he'd just run her off.

"It was nice meeting you too, Miley. Don't let anyone scare you off too much. It's really a pretty cool place to be."
