Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"No one would blame you," he chuckled and nodded, with a grin that boys with a pretty big crush tended to have. At least, this boy did. "Yeah, been for a while now." Though he wasn't sure exactly when he should start counting.

"Aww, check you out. You look all warm and fuzzy about it," Quinn said genuinely. She had a boyfriend she adored; she could let other people have hot boys without getting jealous.

He laughed, a little embarrassed, but it was kind of pointless to try and deny it. "It's good," he admitted, grinning at her. "And I'm sure you'll get all warm and fuzzy with Puck. If you haven't already. When did you get back?"

"Just a couple hours ago," Quinn said. "I haven't found him yet. Oh -- Jake, my mom let me drive my car up from Ohio! I can escape the island if I need to."

If she could get across the causeway, anyhow.

"Cool, I'm not sure the Altanians - or whatever the fuck they're called - will be impressed, but that's cool if we ever get back. What kind of car?"

"Red," Quinn said automatically, then realized Jacob might want a little more information and gave him the make. (An American-made compact, nothing flashy but it was hers.) "I got it for my birthday last year but I hardly got to drive it before we got here."

Jake was laughing at her response and he nodded. "That's cool. If you ever need a mechanic..." He missed tinkering at cars so damn much. "I know a thing or two."

"Anything to get out of changing my own oil," Quinn promised. "Thanks. You don't have a car here, do you?"

"Nope," he shook his head. "I fixed up my own car. Just a Volkswagen, but she's a sweet ride and she's five years in the past. I get to walk here."

"Hopefully not all the way from La Push," Quinn said, which was a lame joke but a joke nonetheless.

He grinned. "Nah, been using a portal lately. It's not that much more expensive than buying a plane ticket. And it's still kind of confusing how that works anyway. Time differences make my head hurt, especially when I'm not half as long gone to them as I've been here."

"I have no idea how that works," Quinn confessed. "It freaks me out worse than the different universes, that time moves around like that."

"I know," he nodded. "I was worried at first that I wouldn't be able to get back at all. Portalocity doesn't seem to blink an eye at it, though."
