Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"Tony mentioned that," Bruce said, explaining why his reaction wasn't more surprised.

And, yes, that did make the rain seem awfully ominous, thank you, Tony's narrative.

"But at least I didn't miss too much, then. Aside from the company, of course."

She actually smiled at him for that. "Well. You missed living in cabins. Which no one warned me was going to happen." Or someone had and she'd forgotten. "It sucked."

"That's right. That happened last summer, too," Bruce said. "I was trapped in my alcove for a day.... I don't have great memories of the cabins either, come to think of it."

"...how'd you get trapped?" she wondered. "They don't even have doors."

"A very large piece of luggage," Bruce said. "It was one of Fandom's 'special' days."

"...something new to dread," she said, making a slight face. "Because being four for a weekend wasn't bad enough, you get things like this, too."

"At least you were able to get back in touch with your inner child," Bruce prodded. "You don't get to do that so literally most places."

"I'm not entirely I have an inner child," Ramona decided. "Maybe just the outer one I grew out of."

"I think I'm starting to understand why we get along," Bruce said. "I've gotten lucky and haven't turned into a kid here. I'm hoping that trend keeps up."

"Way to jinx yourself there, Bruce," she said dryly. "Oh, you missed me turning into a baby chicken, too. That happened."

"I enjoy jinxing myself. That way I either disprove those superstitions or I give everyone something to laugh about." But not for too long if they were smart. "But about the baby chicken thing, was that a weekend event where everyone turned into farm animals? Or was it just you?"
