Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"That would explain why I couldn't quite place it," Bruce said. "This is pre-sinking, right? The sky's not just some sort of protective illusory bubble?"

Occam's Razor said that the simplest solution was most likely the correct one, but it was hard to define "simplest" when the island had moved to ancient Atlantis. Questions needed to be asked, goddammit.

Screw your logic, Bruce! This was Fandom!

"Pre-sinking," Tony confirmed. "The city is pretty---interesting."

TOPLESS WOMEN.

"I would imagine so," Bruce said. "If we haven't moved by tomorrow, I'll have to check it out. Is there anything specific I should make a point to see?"

Besides the topless women.

"There are these people who do, like, gymnastics on top of bulls." A beat. "It's pretty cool."

Bruce would be lying if he wasn't disappointed that he hadn't yet incorporated 'gymnastics on top of bulls' into his training regimen. "Do the bulls stand still for that?"

He thought that sounded too easy. Bruce was weird, man.

He was very weird. But then again, he was talking to the kid who made his own magical suit of robo-armor.

So... glass houses.

"Sometimes. It's not quite like a rodeo or something, but the last one I saw was pretty close."

"Has anyone from Fandom tried it?" Bruce asked. He wanted to do it. But he also kind of wanted to be the first one here to do it.

"Uh, I think it happened in Ben's grandfather's class." No, he wasn't going to think about the weirdness of how young the guy was.

It was better that way.

"Of course it did," Bruce said. Blast that Anakin Skywalker. "I'll keep that in mind for tomorrow. Has the island stopped anywhere besides the viking village and here?"

"There was a Japan with robots--" WHICH WAS AMAZING. "--Eygpt, some weird west with mechanical spiders that ran on steam..."

Someone needed to pay more attention to where they went.

"So, a lot of moving."

"And a lot of robots," Bruce noticed. "Sounds like you've had fun."

"I got manuals on them." Oh god, he was such a nerd.

"Just don't build any that are going to rampage in the town, okay?" Bruce asked. ~~It was more of a Pym thing anyway.~~

"I've never done that before, I don't think this streak will change in the future."

Sentient systems that want to date him, on the other hand...

"Glad to hear it," Bruce said. "Out of curiosity, have you actually built a working robot before?"

"Well, it was a toy, so I don't think it counted," Tony replied. "I've been giving thought to an AI system to help run simulations while I'm in class."

"Really?" Bruce asked. "What kind of simulations?"

"For new designs." Of various things. With armor. SHHHH. "I've been looking into prosthetic limbs based off what I saw in Japan. It would make a good project when I have my company back."

Bruce was admittedly about to stereotype here, but when you have a magical island traveling through space and time stopping in a Japan with robots and cybernetic body parts, some assumptions just got made. "Those limbs don't have weapons in them, do they?"

"I don't design weapons." BECAUSE HE WAS THE ONE TONY STARK THAT DID THIS OR SOMETHING. ALSO, HE WAS A GODDAMN HIPPIE. "But I suppose they could be used as them if someone really wanted to. They'd be durable enough for it."

"Just wanted to make sure," Bruce said. "I'd offer funding for something like that, but I doubt you'd want to bring that kind of technology to WayneTech. Especially since I don't technically run it yet."

"You could always present the idea to your research and development department when you get there," Tony suggested. Because his department cried when they had to work through his projects.

"Oh, I will," Bruce said. "I've been keeping a list of ideas to give to them when the time comes."

Like a rotary car phone?

"I can let you know how far I am on it when you get to that point. It's pretty much just a lot of reverse engineering the smaller details right now."

Understatement of the century.

Rotary car phones already existed, of course. C'mon.

"Define 'smaller details,'" Bruce prodded.
