Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

The last time Stan had seen a pink, talking pony had been in Imagination Land. So he was just going to stay on the other end of the crowd.

Watching the new kids because it was fresh meat or something.

"Does the pony weird you out too?" Toby asked, wandering over.

Wearing the shoes he'd 'borrowed' from Stan weeks ago, yes. What? Shoes cost money, and he didn't have a job.

He was so lucky that Stan owned another pair. So damn lucky.

"As long as it doesn't want to go on adventures, we'll be fine," Stan said, speaking from experience.

"Have you... gone on adventures with a pony before?" Toby had to ask. Given how their distinctly pony-less (...well, there'd been the robo-pony, but Toby didn't want to think about that ever again. Ever.) adventure in Japan had gone, he was willing to bet it had been insane.

"Imagination Land," Stan replied, much like a vet would would say 'Afghanistan' or 'Iraq'.

"Imagination Land?" Toby echoed. "This didn't involve puppets, did it?"

"Terrorists attacked our imaginations, so we had to go save it from them before the government nuked it."

WHAT.

"It was less fun than Japan."

"Nuked your-" Toby broke off, shaking his head. "I don't even know what I'm supposed to say to that."

"I still have nightmares about that attack..." Oh, South Park. "At least there's only been one adventure here so far."

"I dunno, do the freaky spiders count?" Toby wondered. "Or there was that time I ended up in freaking olden-times Toronto for a weekend." He'd been so, so glad to wake up in his own bed Monday morning.

"I'm trying not to remember that weekend, to be honest. I woke up as my dad."

THIS WAS WAY WORSE.

"Correct me if I'm wrong," Annie said, sidling over, "but is that a pony?"

"Definitely a pony," Stan confirmed, keeping his head down in case it noticed them. And wanted to have an adventure. "Just say no to whatever it asks."

"What do you think it would ask?" she said, dropping her voice like maybe it could hear them.

Stan glanced up at it before ducking back down again. "Stop some terrorists where it lives, save the planet from pollution or Al Gore--I don't know. They always ask stupid stuff."

Just be glad it wasn't manbearpig.

"I wouldn't be any good at stopping terrorists, but I could maybe help with the pollution thing..."

What about just say no don't you understand, Annie?

"Wait, how do you know this?"

"...well, you know. Colorado can be weird."

No. South Park can be weird.

"I'm pretty sure my part of Colorado doesn't have pink ponies that ask you to save the world," Annie said.

"What about government designed super towels that get high all the time?"

"...No. We just use towels to dry off," she said slowly.

"...lucky." No one wanted a Towlie around. He was the worst character ever.

Annie bit her lip. "Just asking, but they've never found anything in your water supply that's not supposed to be there, have they?"

"Not that I've heard of," Stan replied after a moment. "I'm not crazy. You can ask Jim. Or Toby. Or even Sam. They saw what happens when Butters and I go somewhere."

Goddamn Japan.

"What'd they see?" asked she who'd only heard vague things on radio.

"Well, we did get attacked by Poptarts that wanted to eat us," Stan said slowly. "And robotic geisha."
