Usually, Bod's walks to the library were quiet. Today, they weren't. He'd seen a few of the spiders out of the corner of his eye but ignored them, just thinking they were another quirk of the island. When some had started to follow him, he'd increased his walk.

When one rather large metallic spider had actually attached itself to his leg and scratched him hard enough to rip his pants and draw blood, he'd kicked it off with his other leg and sprinted the rest of the way to the library.

Leg stinging, Bod made sure to search the library for any of those spiders before declaring it all clear and settling behind the desk so he could clean his leg up. It wasn't too bad, probably no need for stitches but it stung.
