Try Not to Die!! [Tuesday, June 7]

Anakin met his class on the causeway to the new town this morning. "Today's activities will be about survival in a not-quite tamed mining town. As usual, you will complete two activities while trying not to die." He stepped clear of the clue box. "May the Force be with you."

"Do you need to go to the clinic? Tahiri would be happy to help you get there, I'm sure," Anakin said because I'm hilarious, okay.

Gabrielle wasn't sure how happy Tahiri would be about that, but she wasn't going to make the comment. (At least Gabrielle had given up trying to sneak up on her?)

"I'll be all right," she insisted, easing herself into a sitting position; she felt bad making a big deal out of it at all in light of some of what they'd seen in the arena last week, and a little of that might have showed in her face. "I just need a minute. Really."

And the Games had kicked all of Anakin's overprotective instincts into overdrive. "I'll give you the minute," he said, "but if you're limping when you get up, you're going to the clinic."

He was so much fun when he got overstressed.

This was exactly why, even if she'd had time to come up with overly picturesque descriptions of how exactly it felt to get the thing extracted afterward, Gabrielle wasn't mentioning the whole getting-shot-with-a-poisoned-arrow thing either, Anakin.

"I don't have any more classes for the week, and I'll take it easy at the library tomorrow," she promised. It reminded her a little of Xena in overprotective mode; it was kind of touching, and she wasn't going to fight that.

"And when you do, you'll see me taking it easy," Gabrielle returned lightly. Room 218 had enough of the stubbornness-despite-injury in her roommate.
