Surf's Up, Wednesday, Period 3

Summer had set up the Danger Shop once more, to resemble a beach and surf much like those of Ancient Egypt.

"I thought I'd change it up a little, since the island decided to fit us with new surroundings. I thought it would be easier to experience that in here, instead of trying our hand out there and startling the ancient Egyptians."

That might have been quite a sight.

"Today, I thought we could get back in the water and get used to the boards. I'll show you some basic techniques to balance on the boards and you can practice that for as long or as little as you like. And, as always, if you have any questions, I'm here to answer them."

[Wait for OCD's up.]

After checking out some of the techniques, Percy grabbed a board and hit the water. Instantly, he felt more at ease with everything even if the water was just a simulation. He still wasn't a great surfer but he was taking to it quickly.

Luke was getting a little better at this. "This" being both comfort in the water and balancing on a surf board. Who knows, maybe he'd hit the real beach at some point this summer.

Kate was more of a swimmer than she was a surfer, so not entirely used to trying to balance on what was essentially just a chunk of wood in the (fake) sea.

She was not as graceful in this as she would've liked. Not yet, anyway.

Jason was doing better than last week, although he was still having trouble staying balanced for more than a few seconds at a time. Hopefully, Nico wasn't watching him too carefully and feeling embarrassed.

William was basically doing a lot of falling rather than anything resembling surfing. Mostly because whenever one of the girls in class wandered in to his line of sight, he'd attempt to avert his eyes due to that whole Victorian sense of propiety thing he had going on, and the averting led to a whole lot of flailing.

Balancing, Richie found, was kind of hard. At least he had an awesome neon green surfboard. It matched his jacket! Not that he was wearing the jacket while surfing. That would be ridiculous, plus it was hot now.
