Creative Writing; Thursday, Third Period [ 05/12 ].

Shunsui's first order of business for his class was to herd all of those bright-faced and bushy-tailed students into a circle at the center of the classroom. All of the desks had been moved aside, replaced with nice comfortable seating cushions. Shunsui himself settled amidst the students in the circle, as well, gracefully lowering himself despite the two very loaded drink carriers in each of his hands. They were to-go cups from the Perk, and not a drop of them spilled as he sat, and then he started passing them around, one to his left, one to his right.

"Ah, welcome, my new little batch of goslings ♥! Please, take a drink ♥. Some are coffee, some are cocoa, pick based on your tastes, but we are all here to be writers and writers, if they're not smoking or getting drunk, will drink coffee ♥. So help yourself, and we will get started ♥."

"I am Shunsui Kyōraku and I will be your guide through the process of taking our furtive imaginations and wrangling them down with words to delight and entertain ♥! You may be wondering what my qualifications may be...I just so happen to be the author of two very well-known," --well-known for their terribleness, anyway-- "novels and a bestselling autobiography ♥! I believe that life is poetry in motion and that there is a story in everything and there are few journeys as great as the one that brings us through the doorway of the written word ♥. We will cover a different element of writing every week, and then pursue a writing activity based on that theme ♥. This includes today, so I hope you all brought something to write with, but, if not, I have brought along some notebooks and pens to use ♥.

"Today's lesson will involve not only a chance to get to know each other, but it will also teach us one of the key elements in effective writing ♥. Perhaps some of you have heard of the game Two Truths and a Lie ♥? Typically, this is an ice-breaking exercise in which a person introduces themselves with three little tidbits of information, two of which are true, and one of which is a lie ♥. The others then try to guess which one is the falsehood ♥. This is an excellent tool for fiction: all fiction, after all, is improved when it's inspired by truth; it is most effective if it's grounded in some sort of reality, but, since we are creators, a little lying, a little elaboration on the truth or a bit of creativity, is always a nice touch ♥. In a sense, a good story is made up of 'two truths and a lie' ♥.

"So that is what we will do today, only, instead of just saying two truths and a lie about yourself, I would like you little goslings to compose it as a story ♥. For example, here would be mine:

"It was spring, when the trees were bright with the blooming sakura, leaving their intoxicating scent lingering in the faint breeze. Shunsui Kyōraku, a formidable man looming over the hedges of the garden, looked over the members of his troop. He was their captain, their leader, the strong and determined Eighth Division of the Soul Society, and he was debriefing them on a job well done. He had worked with many of them for years; even his lieutenant, Nanao Ise, had virtually grown up in their ranks. When Shunsui had finished speaking, a voice piped up from the gathered soldiers.

'What now, Captain?'

'Break out the booze!' chimed another excited voice.

But to that, Shunsui only chuckled, shaking his head. 'Ah, no," he said. 'I do not drink.'
"

"Anyone who's known me for more than five minutes can pick out the fact that I am quite fond of good sake, and so the part about me not drinking is the clear lie ♥. But I am a Captain of the the Eighth Division, and my lieutenant, Nanao Ise, grew up in my division ♥. And, well, perhaps I did three truths; I am also quite a formidable man ♥."

Shunsui chuckled a little before smiling at his students. "Any questions ♥? I will let you all get to work, then ♥. Enjoy your coffee, your cocoa, and take some time to compose a little story about yourself that involves two truths and lie ♥. Feel free to chat with each other as you work and, toward the end of the class, we'll then share our stories ♥. But remember, your classmates have to guess which is true and which is false, so don't reveal too much as you talk ♥. And if anyone needs a notebook or pen, just let me know ♥."

[[ OCD, it is on the way up, no lying! ]]
