Try Not to Die!! [Tuesday, May 10, 3rd period]

Today, Anakin was a little bit grateful for the cloak he habitually wore as he waited for his class to arrive outside on the border between Fandom and the Viking village. It was a little chilly for a guy who grew up in the desert.

"The island has given us too great an opportunity to ignore today in this course," Anakin told them as his robe flapped occasionally in the breeze in front of a sturdy little clue box. "You will have to complete two tasks today that will hopefully teach you a little bit more about the Vikings and their traditions. Try not to die!"

With that he stepped out of the way of the clue box.

If you won today, you get to wear a genuine Viking hat for the rest of the day, should you choose. It's quite fetching.

Angelica was the last to return and looked positively miserable about it. She didn't want to look incompetent on her very first day of classes. But at least she hadn't died?

"That was the first time I have ever been in a boat," Cassidy said cheerfully when she made it back to where Anakin was waiting. "And I didn't even crash it!"

Yes, Anakin, this was a major accomplishment for her.

His eyebrows arched up. "I didn't realize I should have been concerned about that. You are the sixth student to arrive."

When Warren made it back to see that almost everyone else had made it there before him, he winced, just a little. See, that was where his cockiness had gotten him.

"Ouch."

He was going to spend the rest of the week practising up on his arts and crafts skills.

Angelica was really really really trying (and failing) not to stare at Warren when she finally made it to the finish line. She knew from Jocelyn's description that he had to be her big brother Warren -- either that, or there were multiple boys with wings at the school -- and that he was a mutant like her. But he wasn't hiding it.

Goose wasn't as fast as he would have liked to have been and wasn't very happy with his result when he made it back.

Sam was shaking his hands as he jogged up to Professor Skywalker because after that damned bookcase, rowing the boat back had been hard. He hadn't finished last though so that was something.

Brooke would still laugh at him. Ramon too. Ashley would just shake her head.

Toby wasn't the first one back, but he also wasn't the last. He could deal with being rather unremarkably in the middle. It was... inconspicuous.

Gabrielle was sodden by the time she checked back in, thanks to having fallen out of the rowboat out of exhaustion while she tried to disembark. Oops.

She looked fairly satisfied with herself, though; she felt like she'd done pretty well.

Stupid bookcase. Why didn't people get real furniture? Was it that hard? Really?

Jocelyn needed to stop obsessing over that, but it was better than focusing on how badly she'd done.

Alexander rowed, rowed, rowed his boat to apparent victory, aided by the steady tempo of one of the sailing songs he'd picked up from some of previous classes.

When he got to where they needed to be at the end of the class, he looked about him with a little bit of surprise. "I can't possibly be the first to return!" he remarked, thinking perhaps there was another step and that was where the others had gone.

Simon knew he wasn't anywhere near the first, but he also knew he wasn't among the very last either.

But mostly he knew he was exhausted, and that he should've worn something else for this class.

Alice was pretty sure she'd come in fairly solidly in the back end of the list, possibly even dead last. Just because she was a vampire didn't mean she was good at everything, after all.

A very tired Richie pretty much dragged himself over to Anakin. He hadn't, in fact, died, though he'd kind of wanted to about halfway back from Ikea.
