Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

The food? Still there. The school? Still standing. Students? Still mingling.

Ahhhh. What fun this weekend was for us all. WHAT FUN. And this time it was actually the good weather for shirt removing!

God, I hope you got that spinach out of your teeth. It was in the shape of Denmark.

DANCE PARTY!

Sam was leaning against a tree now, letting it prop him up so he could sip orange juice slowly and not fall asleep. It'd been a long day and it wasn't even over yet.

He figured Brooke and Ashley would pop up later, asking him about what he'd seen and he didn't know if he'd be able to stay awake enough to tell them. The cold kept him mostly alert though, thankfully.

Lion-o was keeping his shirt on, despite the nice weather for a change. He was also wearing a name tag. But instead of his name, he wrote, "I'm a vegetarian!"

He wasn't, of course, but he hoped it persuaded the new kids that he wouldn't eat them if they stopped to talk to him.

Nathan hadn't left to find a bar just yet. He'd stalked away from Ramona and found a spot on the opposite side of things so he could have a smoke and brood a bit.

Fuck it, in three more days he'd be gone. Not like he had to give a shit about anyone right now, right? Right.

Percy was still around and still eating even if he wasn't near Luke to try and steal his stuff anymore. This time, he had his own stuff and was sitting against a tree while he ate.

There was no spinach between Bod's teeth because he wasn't even eating. He'd grabbed himself a bottle of water and was still enjoying the chill in the air while he walked around.

Sam . . . was gnawing a chicken bone into a point. Hey, you never knew with some people. She might need that later.

At some point, she supposed she'd actually have to try being social, but it was still just a bit intimidating. There were so many new people here, and not the kind where she wouldn't have to look at them ever again. God help her, she was actually thinking of finding Freddie and being nice to him, just 'cause he was someone she already knew.

New schools were hard. Why hadn't anyone warned her about that?

WOOOOOOOO!

Ramona was getting tired of pretending to be social with people, even if she did like her new roommate and her little sibling. (Poor Dave from Wisconsin. That kid was in for an awakening and a half.)

She'd been awkwardly flirted with (she thought), flounced away from dramatically (and she still didn't really get that), and now she was just sitting in the grass with her hood up. She was tired in general, but goddammit, she was going to watch the new kids. One of them might do something interesting.

Surreal had found the food.

Even two days in Tersa's fussing care hadn't put much meat on her bones yet, and so she was digging into the fresh fruit and vegetables. They were fresh, and looked wonderful. The sweets could wait.

"A Sister!" Even across the picnic, Karla had recognized a Kaeleeran psychic scent. One that she didn't recognize, even. "Hell's fire and Mother Night, I wasn't expecting yet another witch to show up."

The grin she wore suggested she was pleased about it, however.

At some point, Puck had done something that was something of a compromise when it came to the shirtlessness.

He'd taken off his shirt, but pulled his jacket back on, leaving it open. Some might say that the shirtless chest/open letterman jacket combination was stupid-looking. Puck, of course, thought it was quite sexy.

Surreal's nose twitched, almost in reaction to the psychic scent. Another witch, but not quite right. "Sister," she replied, slightly wary while still extending her hands properly. "No one told me this wasn't a Blood school. Is everyone a landen?"

Not that it was bad, in Surreal's book. But everyone seemed confused by something as simple as vanishing.

"Err...." Karla tried to figure out how to answer that as she laid her palms over Surreal's. "Yes? But...not exactly."

She glanced out at the crowd, looking for people that would make good examples. "There are a very few members of the Blood here." Which was how Karla was able to spot Surreal so quickly. "You, me, Cassidy, and Shira. But the rest...not all of them are landens, even though they're not Blood. There are many types of people here who defy description. Females who are witches and have a magic unlike Craft or who Heal by taking the wounds into themselves and then dispelling them. Mutants who perhaps have wings, or can go through mental barriers like walking through flowers, or can--" wait, no, Bobby wasn't out yet, moving on, "--or Jedi who have something very like Craft, but can use it to make themselves stronger or faster or things like that."

She gave Surreal an unsure-but-game grin. "Even the people here who have no powers don't act much like landens. When I first got here, I thought I was in the Twisted Kingdom, honestly."

Meeting Deadpool hadn't helped.

It was pretty dumb, but Sam was not immune to a well-formed male.

"Wow. School just started looking up."

Puck shot her a cocky smile. He might be taken, but he wasn't blind, and comments like that were great for his ego. "Always willing to do my part to help the new girls adjust. I'm very selfless."

Except for the fact he was cold, and he'd argued about taking his shirt off in the first place.

"Your sacrifice is noted and appreciated," Sam said.

"You're new," Puck noted, because he was a genius like that. "I haven't been appreciated by you before."

Sam was willing to forgive a lot in a good looking guy. "Uh huh. Just came in this morning. I take it you're not."

Surreal muttered something unflattering about how someone wasn't going to feel so well hung the next time she caught him. "So, half-Blood, but not?" she tried, feeling on uneven ground.

Angelica just staaaaared.

Mercy was still here, but she'd found a seat more on the outskirts of the activity where she could watch.

Her mood was decidedly lighter than it had been in a few days, though.

"It might make it easier to think of them that way," Karla said, "But most definitely not. They have no Craft, they have no Protocol, they aren't our ways or our people. But they're fun and they'll surprise you."

Oh, the surprises.

"I'm Karla," she added, since she hadn't yet. "Karla, from Territory Glacia. You?"

"Been here over a year," he said proudly. "Are you feeling welcome yet?"
