The weather was nice, the school wasn't currently under attack from forces not of this universe and they were still in Iceland. Oh yeah, it was day one of the rest of the newbies' lives.

"Three brothers and one sister, all older," Damian said. "But they're adopted. I'm my father's only true son."

Rilla frowned. "Bloodlines are that important? My mother was an orphan and adopted by a very kind brother and sister."

"Bloodlines are extremely important," Damian said. "My grandfather chose my father for my mother so that I would have the best genes possible."

[Well, they were in the original Son of the Demon story where Damian was conceived, but that was thrown out of canon and then ignored when Damian was brought back into canon because Grant Morrison doesn't backread. OH COMICS.]

"How do your people reproduce?" Damian asked, genuinely curious. He'd been conceived the old-fashioned way, but grown in an artificial womb, so an island without sex didn't sound completely implausible. "Do you keep your people from having sexual urges via the use of drug therapy or is there a surgical procedure?"

"Really?" Damian gave her a skeptical look. "Historically, that hasn't been an effective method of chastity enforcement. Plus if you're using non-traditional reproductive methods, there must be a learning curve."
