BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Emma had flown with Angelica from Logan Airport in Boston to Baltimore so she wouldn't have to make the entire trip alone, and Angelica was grateful for that. But after a hug goodbye when the time came for Emma's flight back to Massachusetts, Angelica was alone in the lounge, waiting for the bus to Fandom High. She buried her face in a book and tried not to be too nervous about changing schools, counting out the positives. She might make new friends. Empath and Roulette wouldn't be there. She might accidentally fry someone with her microwave powers.

Oooookay, that last one wasn't too positive.

"Coffee shop," Marshall explained, not even fazed at this point by someone not being familiar with it. "Hot chocolate, froufy hipster drinks, that kinda stuff. I'm doing a run downstairs."

Of course, if Toby paid more attention to things like coffee shops, he might've even been aware of the fact that Toronto circa 1996 actually had a handful of Starbucks locations.

"Coffee?" Toby still looked a little puzzled by the idea. "No thanks. But... I'll take a Coke?" A pause, and then: "...if you're buying," he added, in the interest of honesty. He wasn't above taking advantage of people in the name of not going hungry, but the other kid just seemed so nice, he didn't want to mislead him into thinking he'd be able to pay him back.

Well, at least it wasn't some sob story about having spent his entire allowance on beef jerky? Marshall had gotten that once already.

"I... can probably swing a coke, yeah," Marshall agreed. And, hey, it would be cheaper than a Starbucks drink anyway.

Yeah, Toby didn't even have an allowance to spend on beef jerky. The fact that he had the look of someone who hadn't eaten properly in months and had clearly been wearing the same set of clothes for at least a couple days lent credence to that fact.

"Thanks, man," he offered the other boy a grin. "Toby Logan, by the way."

Yeah, the more Marshall looked at Toby, the more he realised that, hey, maaaaybe it would be worth buying the kid a sandwich, too.

"You're welcome," Marshall replied, trying to give a reassuring smile. "Marshall Wheeler."

Score! Toby couldn't help thinking. Because, hey, free food was free food, damnit.

"Nice to meet ya," Toby replied. "So, camp, huh?"

"Hopefully just camp," Marshall said, making a face. "My parents want me to stay for the school year, but I'd rather go back to my old school."

... And, yeah, the thoughts about saving a girl named Josie from being trapped in a wormhole? Pretty close to the surface there.

And Toby... didn't know what to make of those thoughts, exactly. Except that maybe this Marshall guy was some sort of science fiction fan or something. Some people spent a lot of time thinking about their favourite movies. He'd even once met this one girl who made up her own convoluted adventures in her head for the guys from that Galaxy Quest show.

"I'm just gonna see how I like the place," Toby admitted. "If it sucks, no big deal. I'll just cut and run." You know, again.

"'D be nice to be able to do that," Marshall said. "But my parents would know exactly where to look for me."

You know, that school with the wormhole in the science teacher's office. Not that his parents knew about that part.
