BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Emma had flown with Angelica from Logan Airport in Boston to Baltimore so she wouldn't have to make the entire trip alone, and Angelica was grateful for that. But after a hug goodbye when the time came for Emma's flight back to Massachusetts, Angelica was alone in the lounge, waiting for the bus to Fandom High. She buried her face in a book and tried not to be too nervous about changing schools, counting out the positives. She might make new friends. Empath and Roulette wouldn't be there. She might accidentally fry someone with her microwave powers.

Oooookay, that last one wasn't too positive.

"I did, but you know... stuff happened and Bran sent me home."

"Ah," said Sam knowingly. "Stuff."

"You know. Falling for the wrong guy stuff." Mercy looked down. "And I wrecked his Porsche once."

Okay, that had nothing to do with why he sent her home, but it might distract the other girl from the first part.

"The wrong guy's Porsche?"

Then again, maybe it wouldn't.

"No, his dad's," Mercy said. "Bran's. He's the one who sent me home."

"Okay, now I'm confused." Not that that was hard to do.

"It doesn't really matter," Mercy said. "All you really have to know is I got sent back to my mom's where her new family and I each discovered the other existed."

"That . . . totally sucks," Sam decided. "Sorry."

"Thanks," Mercy said and shrugged. "It is what it is, I guess."

"Yep." Sam glanced around for inspiration at something else to say. "Lotsa new kids in here, I guess."

"There's something to be said for not being the only new kids," Mercy pointed out.

"More people for the old kids to pull pranks on."

"Oh, I'm pretty good at getting my own back," Mercy said with a bit of a smirk.

"Girl after my own heart," Sam said with a grin.

Mercy laughed. "You know, I just might be. I'm Mercedes Thompson, by the way."

"Sam Puckett."

"Nice to meet you, Sam."
