BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Emma had flown with Angelica from Logan Airport in Boston to Baltimore so she wouldn't have to make the entire trip alone, and Angelica was grateful for that. But after a hug goodbye when the time came for Emma's flight back to Massachusetts, Angelica was alone in the lounge, waiting for the bus to Fandom High. She buried her face in a book and tried not to be too nervous about changing schools, counting out the positives. She might make new friends. Empath and Roulette wouldn't be there. She might accidentally fry someone with her microwave powers.

Oooookay, that last one wasn't too positive.

"You're the bus driver?" Sam didn't mean to sound so shocked, but, well, bus drivers in Seattle might say "yo", but they sure didn't look or dress like Reno.

"Nah, I'm just the guy who stole the bus keys from Skywalker," Reno quipped, smirking at the girl. "I'm way too overqualified to be a bus driver, yo."

And better dressed.

And far more liable to drive the bus off the Causeway.

"Really?" Sam smiled at that. "Suddenly this whole private school thing looks a little better."

"Just wait 'till you see the course calendar," Reno replied with a chuckle. "Trust me, kiddo, this ain't like any private school you ever heard of."

... Well, in all his years on Fandom Island, he had yet to meet anyone who thought the place was normal, at least.

"The only ones I know are full of nubs," Sam said. That tally included a grand total of two, one of which her sister attended.

"Nubs," Reno echoed, quirking an eyebrow at the unfamiliar word. "There's a new one. They somethin' like tight-assed snobs who ain't got the time of day for nobody? I met a few of them wanderin' around the private school circuit, yo."

Fortunately, Reno was not an accurate representation of what Sam could expect of the rest of the Fandom faculty. For the most part.

"More like the guys who get so into their little computers and stuff that they forget there's life outside of Galaxy Wars."

"Galaxy Wars, huh?" Reno pursed his lips a little while he thought that one over. "Sounds like some kinda shitty Space Battles ripoff, yo."

Come on. Space Battles was where it was at.

"But I think I know that type, too. Ain't met so many of them, though. They're friggin' elusive buggers."

"Well, unfortunately, you're getting one imported, today." It didn't count if Freddie didn't hear her say it, right?

Naaaah, not at all.

"Well, we'll break 'em of that quick enough," Reno laughed. "Fandom ain't really for the faint of heart, yo."

"Then it's probably the best place for him, then," Sam decided. "He could use a little breaking."

"We'll try not to disappoint." Reno was still chuckling as he winked at Sam. "I think between the classes an' the island itself, it shouldn't be much of a problem."

"I look forward to finding out. Nice to meetcha, bus driver guy."

"Reno," he corrected lightly. "Teacher. An' the pleasure's all mine, rookie."

"Sam," Sam corrected. "Only a rookie at going to private school."

If only she knew.
