Library, [05/01]

Well, this was it. Jonothon's last weekend on the island, his last shift in the library, dutifully pretending that whatever was going on outside was more or less sane.

Which would be going so very well for him, if it wasn't for the way the books had gotten it into their heads (or whatever) to attempt to imitate the Viking-related shenanigans that seemed to be the weekend's running theme, ever since their appearance at graduation.

Jonothon had wrestled to keep the books shelved for a while, before simply giving up, rolling his eyes, and making himself comfortable at his desk with his feet up, playing Ride of the Valkyries on Youtube to keep the hardcover raiders satisfied as they plundered and pillaged the various sections of the library.

If you can't beat them...

The library is open!

"Oh, Jono," Ariel's shoulders sagged a little. "You don't have to give me anything..."

And, a bit tentatively, she gave a small laugh. "As much as teeth and ribs would make a nice addition to my collection."

//I think I would seriously have to worry about yer collection, Sunbeam,// Jono replied, giving her a wry look. //You might want to stick with silverware and saxophones you don't intend to play, hm?//

He was nearly smiling again at that, though it managed to fall a little bit short.

//This is...// He lifted the shell a little. //It's... Thank you. Thank you for this, Ariel. A little luck certainly wouldn't hurt where I'm headed off to.//

Ariel nodded a little. "It sounds like it, yeah. But, hopefully, you won't even need it. But, if you do, well, then, you've got it, don't you?"

"Also," she added after a moment, "I do know something you can give me."

//Oh?// Jono looked up from the shell at her, eyebrows twitching up under his hair curiously. //And what might that be, luv?//

"A hug," Ariel informed him, "that doesn't start out with me tackling you and maybe, if you're feeling generous, one more dance."

//I think,// Jono mused, pulling himself out of his seat and holding his arms open, //those can both be arranged.//

A pause.

//Watch you don't burn yerself.//

Look, some people got sniffly at moments like these. Jono just got warmer.
