Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening PART 2!

Once all the graduates had returned to their seats, with their diplomas, Zoe turned to address the audience.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present --- ee da tuo da bien!”

No one should translate that. Just know that it wasn’t Chinese for ‘funky looking red and green spacecraft twice the size of the school that just zoomed in to hover above the lawn.’

A beam of eerie green light shining down from it, straight onto the stage, and from that pool of light stepped... no, surged, a horde of men in hairy, horny helmets, waving battle axes and growling in ...something Nordic? Eric could tell you, if he could make it to the stage, but unfortunately ? Not so much.

Those other beams of light that shot from the ship took care of that issue. Both the audience bleachers and the area of the stage roped off for the faculty were enclosed by shimmering fields of energy that let air and light through, but were frustratingly solid to the touch.

Sadly for the graduates, there was no annoying force-field separating them from the hairy-hatted men -- who were headed straight for the Fandom High Class of 2011.

When Kennedy finally made her way out of the chaos, winded and sweaty and kind of in need of a shower, she was still in possession of her diploma (and phone!), panting a little bit, and grinning from ear to ear.

"That. Was. Awesome."

Baseball bat still in hand, Dru pushed her hair back and shook her head.

"You're nuts."

Kennedy spread her hands. "As charged," she said, thoroughly unrepentant. "Oh, come on, like that wasn't fun?"

"You have the weirdest definition of fun of anyone I know," she replied. "I just had to take out a Viking with a battle axe armed only with a baseball bat. That's just wrong."

"Don't blame me if you didn't make it to the sharp pointies in time," Kennedy replied, feigning innocence. "Besides, talk about a challenge. You rocked it."

"You're the one with the pointy fetish. I prefer projectiles." Which had been sadly lacking in the weapons locker. Woe. "I'm just glad everyone got through in one piece. And that I might have possibly discovered a new career option in baseball."

"Options are good?" Kennedy tried. "Hey, there's a thought. Shoot for being the first female pro player, and then after your rookie season, break some kind of home run record."

What? It was totally reasonable.

"I think I'm about a foot short and about a hundred pounds too light for the majors," she pointed out. "And I hate chewing tobacco."

"Screw that. Did you not hear the speech?" Kennedy teased. "Chew gum. I won't tell."

"And that," Sookie said, looking fine if a little dirtier than when she'd started, mostly from other people's scuffling around her, "is why you are crazy, and I'm going to miss you."

"Aw, hey, don't start with the misty-eyes talk yet," Kennedy exclaimed, brushing her hair back out of her face. "God, Sookie, it's not like we're gonna pack up and leave as soon as they kick us out of here."

She did, however, bound over and reach out to sling an arm around Sookie's shoulders as she added more seriously, "I'm gonna miss the hell out of you too, you know."

"Oh, hush, I'm the one who's gonna end up crying, and you know it," Sookie pointed out, looping an arm across Kennedy's back in return. "We can save this for the actual Cryathon 2011, though. I expect it'll be one of my prettier days."

"If you don't, I might be kind of insulted," Kennedy teased, bumping her shoulder into Sookie. "But it's not totally out of the realm of possibility for me, either. When we go. Which isn't yet."

"Or for awhile!" Sookie added optimistically. "Loved the speech, by the way, Madam Valedictorian."

"Thanks," Kennedy told her genuinely. "God, that was hard work, but since they were crazy enough to give it to me, I might as well do a good job. The looks on Dad and Constance's faces were totally worth the effort, too."

"Now, those are people I still have to meet while we have guests," Sookie said thoughtfully. "Speaking of, apologies in advance if you run into Jason."

"Totally," Kennedy laughed. "My sister's going to want to meet all of you guys. Tomorrow, probably; I heard rumblings about a family dinner thing tonight, with Tara. Luckily, I've met your brother before so I'm sort of prepared there. But if he says anything Jason-like in front of Janelle I'm not gonna apologize for punching him."

"That's a fairly typical response to Jason," Sookie admitted. "And I can't wait to meet your sister. And Constance, considering how much I've heard about both of them. Though, you know, in way different contexts."

"Been a while since I talked to him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's on a lot of people's possible-punching lists by now," Kennedy mused. "And totally. I'll make sure they get to meet you... and I promise I won't let Constance give you a whole lot of shit about dragging me off to fight stuff in your world all the time."

Dinah took a picture of Kennedy looking Straight Out of Sunnydale, then laughed. "Niiiiiice!"

Kennedy playfully rolled her eyes at Dinah and raised the sword in a salute. "What can I say? We do these things in style."

Another photo, and Dinah beamed back. "Just remember, you didn't end up naked like last year. So you're the lucky lucky one."

"More like all the rest of you were," Kennedy retorted in good spirits. "Like all of you could have handled that much hotness."

Dinah hooted, and held up a hand to high-five her. "You can always strip to prove it!" Then added, "But it's not required."

"Especially not in front of my dad and my little sister," Kennedy added, reaching up (way up) to slap Dinah's hand. "'cause wow, way too weird."
