Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)

The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.

No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

//Absolutely,// Jono intoned, managing to keep a straight face. Not a difficult task, considering. //I failed everything. So they decided to give me a diploma, because it wouldn't do to fail th'prom king, and then ship me off to Massachusetts, in th'middle of th'woods. Out of sight, out of mind, and all.//

"I'd run away and get a garret over a seedy dive bar, if I were you," Jenny advised.

//You know, th'thought did occur to me. Maybe head back to London sometime. There isn't exactly a shortage of seedy dive bars to choose from, there.// A pause, and then a wince. //Trouble is, I think most of them would probably recognize me.//

Well, the half of his face that was still there to be recognized.

"Perhaps I'll start a new team," Jenny mused, sounding like she wasn't looking forward to it but it would happen anyway. "I'll give you a call. You can always use a telepath who can also set things on fire with his face."

Whether he wanted to be a superhero didn't really enter into it, as whether Jenny really wanted to be a superhero never entered into it. Woe.

What Jonothon wanted really didn't tend to factor into anything at all. Why should it factor in, here?

//Already got a team,// he noted, thoughtfully. //But I supppose you can never have too many. If you need anything, Jenny, do leave me a voicemail or something. Apparently, being able to set things on fire with yer face is a more useful skill than I'd assumed it might be, at first.//

"Comes in handy during power outages, I would imagine," Jenny mused.

Since she was basically a walking power station, she also came in handy during power outages.
furnaceface: (Very disappointed in you)

//Also handy when people can't get th'campfire lit,// Jono agreed. //Though I do draw th'line at marshmallows on sticks being aimed at me.//

"Not even if they ask nicely?" Jenny teased.
furnaceface: (Told you so)

//Maybe if they ask nicely,// Jonothon decided. He could handle a bit of teasing if he was in a half-decent mood, apparently.
